SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Manager of Lean, to support our construction project teams to execute Takt Planning and Takt Control, known as "Flow Construction" within Mortenson. Since 2017, 50+ Mortenson project teams have applied Flow Construction. We are seeking a seasoned Takt Planning and Takt Control expert and facilitator to support a growing number of project teams to take this approach to the next level.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Create strong partnerships to establish trust and gain confidence in the Flow Construction approach.

    • Partner with Group and Project Leaders to assess opportunities by project and phase of work, and secure commitments to the Flow Construction approach.
    • Maintain engagement by Field Operations Managers and Project Leaders (Project Executives, Project Managers, Superintendents, Schedulers, Trade Partner Leaders) in both the upfront phase (Takt Planning) and throughout execution (Takt Control).

  • Support a portfolio of projects with Flow Construction. (The number of projects will depend on the size and complexity. Projects currently applying the Flow Construction approach range from Mega projects ($1bn+) to <$5M and everything in between.)

    • Support project teams, including Mortenson Teams and Trade Partners, to develop and commit to Flow Schedules (Takt Plans)
    • Support project teams to put in place Takt Control / Steering processes including Look-Ahead, Weekly and Daily Planning processes to maintain excellent flow despite changes and impacts.
    • Facilitate effective use of associated tools.
    • Do this with a dual focus on developing capability and improving outcomes.

  • Contribute to the improvement of Mortenson's Flow Construction approach.

    • Assess project team's application of Flow Construction and capture lessons learned.
    • Support us to improve how we monitor and measure the effectiveness of our Flow Construction capability and outcomes.
    • Develop, refine and advance the use of tools.
    • Help us imagine where we can take Flow Construction, and help us get there.

  • Coach and develop key individuals to create capability and a culture of continuous improvement within their Groups.

    • Lead by example with ongoing development of your own technical and leadership capabilities - always be learning and growing.
    • Coach, advise and partner with Group Lean resources and Field Leaders (Field Operations Manager, Superintendents, and Forepersons/General Forepersons) to develop Flow Construction capability.




QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related degree, or equivalent combination of education and technical/field experience demonstrated over multiple years of related work experience
  • Minimum of fifteen years' construction experience
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in a Lean or other operational functional role (e.g. Quality, Safety, Planning & Scheduling)
  • Experience working with construction project teams to facilitate Takt Planning
  • Expert understanding of Takt Planning and Takt Control
  • Humble learner; strong sense of curiosity and optimism
  • Proactive self-starter with a growth mindset
  • Excellent reliability and follow through on commitments
  • Excellent trainer and facilitator
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor Group and Project Leaders on how to engage their teams in continuous improvement. Strong ability to coach and mentor Lean professionals in their roles.
  • Ability to influence through relationship building at group and project leader level
  • Effectively work with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 50% to diverse locations in the continental U.S.

The base pay range for this role is $134,300 - $201,500. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
