Vessel IT Analyst

Responsible for the day-to-day administration and support of shipboard IT infrastructure, including servers and workstations, satellite and network communications, and installed software applications aboard Company-managed vessels. Participate in the planning and execution of various vessel-related technical projects, including vessel reflags and hardware upgrades. Provide technical advice and training to mariners, vessel managers, and IT personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for the MLL fleet's IT infrastructure, including shipboard networks, satellite communications, servers, workstations, network printers, and other IT equipment used aboard MLL vessels.

  • Plan and execute shipboard IT infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and support.

  • Coordinate the activities of internal and external service providers as related to vessel IT goals.

  • Assist in the development of vessel IT budgets.

  • Develop, document, and implement Company technical procedures, processes, and work instructions.

  • Ensure adequate data protection capabilities are in operation at all times.

  • Provide for backup and recovery of vital shipboard data and services.

  • Monitor the performance of provided services and take corrective action to maintain or improve information technology services provided to the MLL fleet.

  • Make recommendations for new or upgraded information technology services and equipment for the MLL fleet.

  • Plan, design, and implement new or upgraded services for the MLL fleet.

  • Coordinate with the vessel managers and other Maersk LineLimited personnel to provide adequate and timely technical supportto MLL vessels.

  • Maintain technical and configuration documentation of company-owned workstations and servers aboard owned or operated vessels.

  • Manage the Company antivirus program, which includes workstations, servers, and email virus programs for all Maersk Line, Limited vessels.

  • Manage and implement security patches and service packs for workstations and servers for all Maersk Line, Limited vessels.

  • Supports commitment to safety and other selected company standards and certifications

  • Performs other position-related duties as specified by management

Position Specifications:

Education and Experience

  • A combination of technical education and experience that provides a strong foundation in Information Services, and three or more years of experience supporting computers connected to networks.

  • A detailed understanding of local area and wide area networking principles and support requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of personal computer and application support.

  • Able to work without supervision and deal with multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to deliver support services from a customer-oriented perspective.

Technical Skills and Competencies Required

  • Knowledge of local area and wide area networking principles and support requirements.

  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise

  • Knowledge of computer/network systems infrastructure requirements and standards

  • Knowledge of computer security systems, applications, procedures and techniques

  • Strong knowledge of personal computer and application support

  • Ability to work without supervision and deal with multiple tasks simultaneously and to deliver support services from a customer oriented perspective.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel

  • Ability to install, configure, and maintain personal computers, networks, and/or related hardware and software

  • Ability to analyze and assess computer/network architecture requirements and determine optimum, cost-effective solutions

  • Certifications in technologies as appropriate.

  • Computer/network systems planning skills

  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.

  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Strong customer service orientation.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Must be a U.S. citizen eligible of obtaining a security clearance from the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA). MLL is a drug-free work environment and requires employees to take random drug tests during their employment with the company.

  • This position requires access to vessels and safety sensitive facilities and therefore requires a Transportation Worker Identification Credential ("TWIC").

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While in the office, general office settings apply; typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work, usually at a computer terminal - with short breaks or lunch periods. However, there may be some bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder level, walking; standing; carrying of items such as servers, printers or packages of up to 70 pounds. Should be able to hear & speak clearly using phone / headset to communicate with customers; be able to navigate, view & enter information on the computer. Must be able to pick up computers, and be able to crawl under desks to connect systems.

In addition, employee will be exposed to shipboard conditions which will include; bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder level, walking; standing, and climbing multiple flights of stairs. There may be some instances where employee will have to stay overnight on a MLL vessel that is either docked or underway.
