Position Summary:

Our Internal Communications team is responsible to be the most productive, authentic and successful versions of themselves. This includes creating a consistent and engaging methodology around our internal communications. To evolve how our employees work together, learn, are informed need to be successful, and to cultivate and grow our overall employee experience. The ideal candidate is a clear and persuasive communicator, with intellectual curiosity and a positive attitude. Preferably, with communications experience either in-house or at an agency. Candidates should have the ability to anticipate roadblocks and problem solve to keep initiatives moving forward.

Work Location: Hybrid or Onsite; Headquarters campus in East Lansing, MI
Work Schedule:
Full-Time up to 40 hours/week; 8:30AM - 5:00PM Monday-Friday
Paid Hourly Internship
- $16+/hour
Duration:
Summer Semester beginning May 14th, with potential to continue during the school year (part time hours available)

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Communicate MSUFCU's values and culture internally in a way that fosters employee engagement and strengthens the organization
  • Create an overall communications experience that not only engages and informs employees about the internal priorities and events, and soliciting their feedback, but also facilitating collaborative communication across the organization.
  • Promote a positive flow of information internally
  • Write, edit, review and ensure consistency of messaging across internal platforms
  • Review and edit internal communications prior to dissemination for accuracy, clarity, and tone of voice
  • Develops creative content to build understanding of processes, policies and decisions
  • Proactively identify engaging stories and messages connected to strategic goals
  • Evaluate requests and work with management to develop effective communication plans for business goals
  • Plan, respond, write, and edit internal communication to drive employee engagement
  • Review and proofread material to ensure consistency in messaging and adherence to brand standards across all content and channels
  • Work with Internal Communications management to provide recommendations to employees and management on internal communication initiatives in support of business goals and objectives
  • Help contribute to monthly employee newsletter content
  • Participate in training activities within the department with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure employees compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
  • Organize, monitor, create, and publish content to internal televisions
  • Collaborate with Internal Communication team to populate, write and maintain content on our intranet, including the employee blog and response to posted questions
  • Develop and maintain key message platforms for a variety initiatives and topics


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Actively pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree in related field of study (communications, marketing, business, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal, writing and organizational skills
  • Ability to respond quickly and readily to leadership requests
  • Seek out proficiency with products and services, including rules and regulations, policies and procedures
  • Excellent editor and proofreader
  • Understand the Credit Union's culture, vision, and mission and integrate these into communication materials
  • Strong ability to receive feedback with a positive outlook to confirm communication meets leadership needs
  • Ability to solve problems and handle complex details with resilience and positivity
  • Multi-task orientation to handle a number of projects at once while remaining flexible to changing requirements and priorities
  • Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to develop ideas into executable plans
  • Must have knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office. Adobe Design experience is preferred
  • Able to communicate complex, technical messages into easy-to-understand language
  • Shows initiative and ability to manage time, prioritize multiple and concurrent tasks and produce results under tight deadlines. Must be deadline and detail-oriented while simultaneously being flexible and able to meet sudden and unpredictable needs
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to analyze content and channel effectiveness
  • Able to work in a pressure-driven environment with excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Results driven strategic thinker to identify and prioritize opportunities and implement change expediently


Physical Demands and Work Environment



  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage
  • Occasionally needs to move about inside of office area
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure
  • This position is able to work in hybrid or onsite working arrangements
