Job Description Summary

The Center for Entrepreneurship at Wake Forest University seeks two dynamic faculty to join our team in fall of 2025 as Professors of the Practice. We are a spirited program on the rise nationally, having won five major awards at key conferences recently, and we are eager to welcome new colleagues. Our Center is uniquely positioned in the College of Arts and Sciences, offering an interdisciplinary minor in Entrepreneurship, guided by our value of the liberal arts and the university's motto: Pro Humanitate (For Humanity). Students currently minoring in Entrepreneurship are pursuing majors across 22 disciplines, including History, Sociology, Psychology, Business, Communication, Engineering, and Environmental Science and Sustainability, providing a rich environment for diverse perspectives and unusual collaborations to identify high impact solutions to high impact problems for the betterment of our world.

Job Description:

This is a teaching-centric role and responsibilities are divided 80% teaching and 20% service. For each position, the teaching load is three courses per semester and includes teaching core courses primarily and electives (such as entrepreneurial finance and entrepreneurship/digital marketing) as needed. Faculty in these positions will also join the teaching team of our startup accelerator program. There is also a heavy mentoring focus for both of these positions. This is a multi-year, renewable, non-tenure track contract position.

Position Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience founding, scaling, and successfully exiting a minimum of one venture

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field or discipline

  • Experience teaching and mentoring (higher education context preferred)

In addition to the position requirements, the ideal candidate would possess one or more of the following:

  • Commitment to the continual development of skills for teaching and mentoring; believes deeply in evidence-based entrepreneurial or creative thinking and in developing nascent entrepreneurs

  • Experience with mentoring students in team-based projects, particularly (though not limited to) teams in an incubator or accelerator-style program

  • Expertise in entrepreneurial finance (raising equity and debt financing, cap tables, burn/fume rate, breakeven analysis, key financial ratios, ability to analyze financial statements etc. or as a venture capitalist or angel investor)

  • Expertise in entrepreneurial marketing (defining, targeting, and reaching customers, building a brand from scratch, digital marketing expertise, PR, etc.)

  • Knowledge of or experience with scaling ventures of any kind (e.g. startups, nonprofits, social movements), including identifying and securing the resources needed for sustainability

  • Scholarly activity, such as presenting at conferences, writing cases, articles, or a book
