BI Engineer / Dashboard Engineer

Flexible in Europe (Remote)

Bluehawk Consulting is seeking a skilled and self-motivated Dashboard Engineer who is passionate about data visualization, actionable KPIs, and delivering tailored dashboards that empower teams to track and achieve their goals.

Project Overview

This role requires a mix of technical expertise, hands-on coding, leadership, and strategic thinking to define and implement effective dashboarding solutions. The successful candidate will help drive momentum, manage resources, and lead a small team of engineers to deliver impactful solutions.

Responsibilities

Dashboard Development & Customization:

  • Define and tailor dashboards to meet the needs of various business segments.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable KPIs, SLOs, and SLAs.
  • Hands-on development using Power BI and visualization tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elastic.
  • Leverage advanced tools to aggregate and clean data for reporting.


Project Leadership:

  • Serve as the lead in setting up the project infrastructure and ensuring seamless execution.
  • Lead a small team of engineers to support dashboard initiatives and ensure timely delivery.
  • Self-starter mentality to identify helpful data sources, carve out relevant insights, and make them accessible.


Data Aggregation & Integration:

  • Work with existing data in storage, identifying relevant data sources to support teams in navigating the information landscape.
  • Ensure smooth integration with observability & monitoring tools like Splunk, Datadog, Dynatrace, or New Relic.
  • Use programming skills (e.g., Python) to prepare and clean data for use in dashboards.


Infrastructure & Reporting Automation:

  • Work with IaC/Git for deploying reporting code and related systems as needed.
  • Ensure proper infrastructure setup to support monitoring, visualization, and reporting needs.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong Hands-On Experience:

  • Dashboards: Power BI, Prometheus, Grafana, Alert Manager, Elastic.
  • Programming: Python for data aggregation and cleaning.


Nice-to-Have Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of ServiceNow and Splunk as a developer.
  • Familiarity with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, or New Relic.
  • Experience with Qlik, Jira, or similar tools is a plus.


Dashboard & Metrics Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of KPIs, SLOs, SLAs, and how to visualize them for actionable insights.
  • Experience defining and implementing dashboarding best practices.


Leadership Skills:

  • Ability to lead a team of engineers and manage resources effectively.
  • Self-starter with a proactive attitude to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.


Infrastructure Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with IaC/Git for deploying and managing code and systems is highly desirable.
