Primary Purpose of Position |
The Associate Director for Administration manages and directs the complex housing assignments program that serves more than 6,000 students annually. The Associate Director is required to have specialized and detailed knowledge of the assignments process and all corresponding processes, procedures, and supporting systems. The Associate Director serves as the University's foremost expert and authority on occupancy management and housing assignments. The Associate Director oversees all front office operations, all assignments-related processes, and our housing tour program for prospective students and their families. The Associate Director assists leadership with strategic planning, assessment efforts, as well as recommending and executing updates to processes. Other key responsibilities of this position include planning, organizing, and managing daily operations; recruitment, supervision, development, and management of three full-time staff members and indirect recruitment, supervision, development, and management of up to 15 student staff members; program policy and procedure design and implementation; and associated business functions. Work also includes marketing the required first-year live-on experience and defending program goals and objectives before divisional and campus leadership. The Associate Director is also tasked with monitoring best practices in the
UNC system, among other StarRez (the housing assignments software program) users, and across the country. |
Summary of Position Responsibilities |
The Associate Director for Administration provides supervision and development for 3 full-time staff members as well as indirect supervision and development for as many as 15 student staff members. Additionally, the Associate Director is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the front office area, serves as our foremost expert on all assignments, and occupancy matters, manages daily operations in StarRez, oversees our campus tour operation, and is a primary liaison to key campus partners. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Master's degree (preferably in business administration, higher education, counseling and/or student personnel or related field).
Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in business administration, campus housing, housing assignments, occupancy management, housing operations, student affairs, or a related field. |
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
Master's degree (preferably in business administration, higher education, counseling and/or student personnel or related field).
5-7 years of progressive (post-masters) experience in business administration, campus housing, housing assignments, occupancy management, housing operations, student affairs, or a related field.
Experience with:
- StarRez (and transition from Mercury to StarRez is an added bonus)
- Banner
- Supervising professional and student staff
- De-escalating frustrated students and parents with high expectations
- Human resource functions
- Customer service/customer experience
- Building and maintaining relationships with key campus partners
