Postdoctoral Associate in Biostatistics/Epidemiology

The Finkelstein Laboratory in the Division of Nutritional Sciences, Cornell University is seeking applications for a full-time post-doctoral associate. We are conducting several large randomized clinical trials, cohort studies, and surveillance programs, in India, Latin America, and the United States related to nutrition, infectious diseases, and maternal and child health; funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The post-doctoral associate will provide expertise in statistical analyses and assist with the development of scientific manuscripts and research grant applications. The candidate will work with large, complex datasets from recently completed randomized trials and prospective cohort studies. Responsibilities include cleaning datasets from recently completed research studies, database management, conducting statistical analyses (SAS or R), review/verification and archival of programs for research manuscripts, and providing support for other lab members designing and conducting statistical analyses for research manuscripts. This position will be based in Ithaca, New York, with the potential for remote/flexible work and short-term travel and fieldwork at our international research sites. This is a one-year full-time benefits eligible position which may be extended for up to 4 years depending on performance and continuation of funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct biostatistical analyses of large complex longitudinal datasets
  • Develop final publishable-quality tables and figures for inclusion in research manuscripts
  • Write (and clearly document) SAS or R programs to clean, maintain, and analyze datasets
  • Manage data-related aspects of research projects
  • Assist with the development of research manuscripts
  • Assist with the development of grant applications

Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or Epidemiology or related field is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAS or R and experience working with large complex longitudinal datasets is required. (Experience conducting statistical analyses such as robust variance, binomial regression, generalized estimating equations, Cox proportional hazard models, repeated measures analyses, and hierarchical analytic methods required.).
  • Excellent quantitative, technical, analytic, and applied research skills are required.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, including scientific writing are required.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent time management, detail-oriented work style, and meticulous and consistent follow through on projects are required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary research team are required.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) models and development of AI tools with applications in disease detection/diagnosis and epidemiology is desirable.
  • Familiarity with biological, medical, nutrition and/or public health research; and randomized trials and epidemiological studies desirable.
  • Interest in nutrition and maternal and child health and experience with biological datasets, or high-dimensional data and knowledge in biology is preferred.

Pay Range:

$61,008.00 - $87,000.00

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
