$18.90- $24.40 hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our Manufacturing Human Resources team. The Human Resources Assistant at McKee Foods plays a vital role in supporting the HR department by assisting with various administrative and operational tasks. This position helps manage employee records, facilitates in corrective action processes, assists with onboarding and termination procedures, and supports employee relations initiatives. The HR Assistant will handle sensitive and confidential information, ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements, and contribute to the efficient functioning of the HR team. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential in this fast-paced role.

  • Answering phone calls and responding to emails inside and outside of the company
  • Answering employee and applicant HR related questions
  • Coordinating interviews, communicating with candidates and creating interview packets
  • Entering various information in Workday (HR information system)
  • Extracting information from HR information systems through inquiries and running reports
  • Attending various meetings and taking notes (preferably on laptop), often on serious and highly confidential matters
  • Initiating background checks for new hires
  • Completing online I9 verifications
  • Scheduling drug screens, post-offer medical evaluations and orientation
  • Processing new hire paperwork
  • Creating check requests
  • Reviewing performance evaluations
  • Coordinating lunch for tours and other events
  • Providing support to HR Shared Services which may include:
  • Approving internal job applications
  • Providing employment verifications
  • Providing new hire announcement information
  • Purchase needed office supplies/ event items and reconcile expense report when purchases are made
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of college (>31 semester hours) with 1 year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (2 years of experience = 1 year of education)
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently, including effective follow-up and prioritization
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Advanced technical writing skills, business grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with the ability to proofread and edit
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Interpersonal skills that promote teamwork, cooperation, and relationship building
  • Ability to work effectively and productively with minimal supervision
  • High level of initiative
  • Proven ability to apply independent judgment and complex problem solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions while maintaining a professional attitude
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook (searching, calendar functions, etc.)
  • Ability to organize office processes, business information, and schedules
  • Dependable with excellent attendance
  • Must have experience taking minutes for meetings, business conversations, investigations, and related functions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Business Management, Human Resources or related field
  • Experience with Workday or other HR Systems
  • Familiarity with basic employment law
  • Experience as a Paralegal/ Legal Assistant
  • Ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute
