Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The North Carolina Botanical Garden ( NCBG) has been a leader in native plant conservation, horticulture, and education in the southeastern United States for more than 50 years. Position Summary
The Carolina Community Garden ( CCG), https://ncbg.unc.edu/engagement/ccg/, is a community engagement program of the North Carolina Botanical Garden. All of the produce grown at the CCG is distributed free-of-charge to UNC housekeepers. Garden assistant responsibilities include the following: assisting the garden manager at three volunteer workdays a week, planting, weeding, propagating seedlings, watering, mowing grass, building trellises, turning compost, and leading volunteers in garden tasks. The assistant will be responsible for workdays and produce distributions to garden recipients in the absence of the garden manager. The assistant will also be responsible for creating posts for social media.

This position requires driving.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and some experience in horticultural work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special Licensure or Certification: May require North Carolina Pesticide License; North Carolina Commercial Driver's License.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Valid NC Driver's License required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience creating social media posts a plus.
Experience working outdoors in heat, humidity, and the cold.
Prefer applicants that are hard working, demonstrate dedication, responsibility, and reliability in the workplace, have excellent communication and social skills, and bring an enthusiasm for engaging with and inspiring student, staff, and community volunteers.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Applicants need to be able to lift 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
