As the Public Information Representative working with our campus environments and facility departments, you'll be pivotal in shaping how we engage diverse audiences through impactful storytelling and campaigns, innovative website management, and effective communication strategies. This position offers the opportunity to craft narratives that celebrate campus environments, sustainability initiatives, facilities management, and groundbreaking construction projects at The University of New Mexico. In this exciting role, you'll manage and deliver timely, accurate communications across multiple platforms, amplifying the efforts of a division dedicated to creating exceptional experiences for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. You'll also play a vital role in coordinating and disseminating urgent and emergency communications, ensuring that essential information reaches the right audiences during critical situations. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and edit a variety of communications, including press releases, newsletters, and promotional content for digital and print platforms, ensuring consistent on-brand messaging.
  • Strategize and execute internal and external communication plans to highlight achievements, projects, and initiatives.
  • Coordinate urgent and emergency communications, including crafting and disseminating time-sensitive messages across email, social media, websites, and other platforms, in alignment with university protocols.
  • Maintain and update department websites through the Cascade Content Management System, ensuring accurate and engaging content. Training will be provided if needed.
  • Collaborate with ISS departments to coordinate effective campaigns that resonate with target audiences while meeting strategic goals.
  • Foster relationships with journalists and media outlets to amplify FM and ISS's visibility.
  • Serve as unit liaison and coordinator on public and/or media relations issues; respond as appropriate to both internal and external requests for public information.
  • Assists in assessing needs and planning and formulating the organization's public/media relations policies, strategies, and responses.
  • Assist with event planning and execution for campus-wide events such as groundbreaking ceremonies, ribbon cuttings, volunteer events, and public outreach programs.
  • Conduct market research to identify opportunities for enhanced communication and engagement.
  • Provide guidance and
    support to student employees, interns, and volunteers

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid NM Driver's License may be a requirement for some positions in this classifciation.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

* A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field, with at least two years of directly related experience.

* Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), with additional experience in tools like Lightroom or Premiere as a plus.

* Experience managing web content through a Content Management System (Cascade preferred). Training will be provided if needed.

* Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and solve problems creatively.

* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across diverse teams and external organizations.

* Experience in managing time-sensitive or urgent communication situations with clarity and efficiency.

* A proactive, self-motivated attitude with a passion for sharing impactful stories.
