Position Summary

The Administrative Nurse III (Nurse Manager) is accountable and responsible for providing oversight of the department day to day operations. The Nurse Manager participates in evaluative research, teaching, prioritizing patient needs, and providing leadership with resource utilization. The Nurse Manager serves as a resource for physicians, nursing and support services. The Nurse Manager identifies strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions, process improvement and quality initiatives in the department. The Nurse Manager relates effectively with department team members for high quality delivery of services and maintains high quality relations with other departments and nursing units. The Nurse Manager participates in all mandatory education requirements, maintenance of records and updating of policies, procedures and skills of personnel in the department.

Duties & Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Director of Nursing Operations, the nurse manager is responsible for assisting in ongoing evaluation of set practice, staff competencies, and implementation of best practice measures to ensure delivery of quality patient care.
Acts as a professional leadership role model
Ability to work flexible shifts and days when required.
Promotes and supports Shared Leadership as the selected method of nursing governance
Actively participates in organizational communication processes through timely review and response to electronic and written messages.
Demonstrates competency of all departmental IS applications.
Establish regular communication processes with physicians, nurses, and leadership to review current status, variances, resolutions, and programs as needed.
Participates in process and quality improvement of nursing systems.
Participates in developing and implementing quality indicators.
Collaborates with hospital leadership in the management of house wide patient flow and capacity.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree required, Master's Degree preferred in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Public Health, or Business.
3. Minimum of five years clinical experience, preferably in an academic health care setting.
4. Minimum of three years of experience in nursing leadership/management.
5. Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications.
6. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
7. Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
