Job Summary Lift, move and position loads of long, heavy, steel joists ready for shipping. Have full operational knowledge of all primary pieces of equipment in a shipping yard, in particular the competent use of high capacity, pneumatic, heavy duty fork lifts. Essential Functions Observe load hookup and determine safety of load. Manipulate fork lift vehicle controls to regulate speed, direction and movement of materials. Use hoisting attachments such as hooks, slings, or buckets as load requires. Perform daily safety checks and inspect vehicle for defective parts, notifying supervisor of defects. Build and band loads for shipment, tag loads for shipment. Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, contractors, coworkers and supervisors.
