The Weaver Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a creative and highly motivated Research Scientist to significantly contribute to our labs goal of identifying mechanisms of DNA repair in chromatin. The Weaver Lab is dedicated to unraveling mechanisms of DNA repair in chromatin and harnessing these mechanistic insights to improve human health. Current research projects in the lab aim to: (1) Determine how DNA damage impacts chromatin structure, stability, and dynamics; (2) Determine how DNA repair enzymes identify and process DNA damage in chromatin; and (3) Determine how chromatin-modifying enzymes regulate chromatin structure to facilitate DNA repair. The lab addresses these research aims using a powerful combination of biochemistry, single-molecule fluorescence microscopy, structural biology, and cellular biology approaches. The Research Scientist will lead their own independent research project related to one of the three overarching aims of the Weaver Lab. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Requires a doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experience. Experience: None Licensure: None Preferred Requirements:
Preferred Skills Prior research experience in chromatin biology and/or DNA damage repair is advantageous. Prior experience in two or more of the following techniques is highly preferred:
