The Opportunity:

UCF is seeking to fill multiple roles for the Maintenance Technician II. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department.

Join our dynamic Facilities Operations team as a Maintenance Technician II focused on paint care. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the campus and ensuring a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues, providing services, and responding to requests from customers and staff. The ideal candidate has intermediate painting skills and a solid understanding of building systems maintenance. Additionally, you will be expected to assume on-call responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.

Responsibilities:


  • Perform planned and scheduled maintenance work, including painting tasks related to building and equipment repair, following University guidelines.

  • Apply intermediate-level painting techniques, including the use of paints, varnishes, shellacs, urethanes, enamels, stains, and other mediums. Utilize tools such as spray equipment, rollers, brushes, and sponges to apply coatings, as well as other related equipment (e.g., tape gun).

  • Mix paint and match colors, ensuring consistency with existing finishes. Use brushes, sprayers, or rollers to apply paint or other coatings.

  • Remove old finishes using scrapers, chemical compounds, or blowtorches, and fill nail holes, joints, and cracks with plaster or other filler.

  • Special skill is required for mixing and matching colors, especially when dealing with discontinued, weathered, or aged paint that may not adhere to prescribed formulas.

  • Provide support for tasks completed by central shops, contractors, other departments, or events on campus.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including recurring work without a specific frequency or that remains open for a set amount of time.

  • Complete work orders promptly, documenting labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes. Include relevant details such as work performed, special conditions, or situations requiring further attention.

  • Report any issues requiring attention to your supervisor and update the work order status accordingly.


Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 3+ years of experience in maintenance or a related field, with a focus on painting and building systems maintenance.

  • Experience with interior and exterior painting, including knowledge of surface preparation for proper paint adhesion, and paint application techniques.

  • Proven expertise in applying a variety of paints, coatings, and finishes using various tools and equipment.

  • Ability to mix and match colors, including working with discontinued or aged paint.

  • Proficiency in carpentry to complete minor repairs to surfaces prior to painting and perform other preparations including cleaning, scraping, sanding, and patching imperfections on walls, ceilings, doors, and trim.

  • Familiarity with using spray equipment, rollers, brushes, and other necessary painting tools.

  • Knowledge of building systems maintenance, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or other general trades.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.

  • Proficiency with using standard office software applications including Microsoft Office, work order systems (e.g., Integrated Work Management System) and utilize telecommunication devices.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities and emergency situations effectively.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping, inventory management, and compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Able to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with various campus departments and teams to address facility needs and ensure smooth operations.

  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, within differing climates, and at different elevations.

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

UCF is seeking to fill multiple roles for the Maintenance Technician II. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department.

This position is eligible for 5% Shift Differential Pay of the pay range minimum.

Position involves working on high elevations and confined spaces.

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination, and training in use of respirators.
