Job Summary:



Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities. Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Key Responsibilities:

Examples of Duties Performed at all levels



  • Accommodate all AISR Users:

    • Schedule imaging studies through the iLab
    • Perform tissue collection and extraction for metabolomics
    • Perform imaging acquisitions according to the established SOPs
    • Perform animal anesthesia and animal handling during imaging studies according to the established protocols
    • Individualized training sessions for our users on optical imaging and CT
    • Involvement in the initial image and data analysis


  • Operate as an AISR technician by coordinating all AISR activities including iLab scheduling, invoicing, and reporting
  • Updating all SOPs for animal imaging
  • Routine maintenance of the Siemens Inveon PET/CT, PerkinElmer Quantum CT and IVIS Spectrum
  • Communicate with research personnel regarding technical issues during image acquisition
  • Work closely with all team members as well as the Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Veterinarian OLAR team


Intermediate Level, all the above and:



  • Independently review, develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Assist and train junior team members and students
  • Provide trainings to AISR Core Users in the areas of MR safety and Radiation safety and Biosecurity
  • Perform all animal handling relating to image acquisition
  • Perform basic data management procedures according to AISR Core established protocols
  • Assist with coordinating the import and export of animals from external institutions to the AMC that are enrolled in imaging with the AISR Core


Senior Level, all the above and:



  • Assist with developing or develop protocol-specific systems and documents including process flows, training manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Maintains subject level documentation and prepares documents, equipment and/or supplies
  • Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and shares results with leadership
  • Serve as a resource to PIs and other stakeholders
  • Provide all necessary imaging SOPs, policy guidance and interpretation to all AISR collaborators
  • Assist with reviewing all IACUC protocols containing animal imaging amendments and offer guidance to ensure all necessary documentation and compliance
  • Participate in scientific publications by the AISR Director and major collaborators related to technological aspects and image acquisition of the animal imaging studies
  • Track inventory and reorder all low supplies and consumables related to the daily operations of the AISR Core
  • Independently acquire data for all imaging modalities to include; MRI, PET, CT, Optical and NMR after initial on-boarding training
  • Independently navigate all medical imaging software within the AISR Core to include; ASIPro, ParaVision, Living Image, Analyze 14.0, AccuCT, TopSpin, ImageJ and 3D-multi-modal image fusion after initial on-boarding training

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Entry



  • Bachelor's degree in degree in biology, zoology, molecular biology, chemistry or related field.


Intermediate



  • Bachelor's degree in degree in biology, zoology, molecular biology, chemistry or related field and 1 year of professional level relevant work experience.


Senior



  • Bachelor's degree in degree in biology, zoology, molecular biology, chemistry or related field and 2 years of professional level relevant work experience.

    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.




Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree or higher in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab
  • Some research experience with NMR, or metabolomics
  • Some research experience in handling laboratory animals (mice, rats)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

Entry- $45,000-$57,240

Intermediate- $48,970-$62,290

Senior- $52,941-$67,341

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
