Director, Center for Neuroscience Discovery and Innovation

Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) and Advocate Health are seeking a transformational leader and nationally renowned translational investigator to join our vibrant, collaborative neuroscience community as Director of a new Center for Neuroscience Discovery and Innovation that promotes world-class research, education, and community engagement.

The Center for Neuroscience Discovery and Innovation will be an overarching administrative structure bringing different components of interdisciplinary neuroscience research together across multiple entities and areas, including clinical, preclinical, basic science, community, and population health research. It will partner with neuroscience education programs at the undergraduate, graduate, medical and post-graduate levels, and will connect to the communities we serve with outreach and educational activities. The Center will partner with entrepreneurs and experts in public policy and philanthropy to facilitate community engagement. With the guidance of a visionary Director, the Center for Neuroscience Discovery and Innovation will support and expand neuroscience research across all Advocate Health and WFUSM campuses, thereby enhancing academic reputation, increasing extramural funding and clinical trials, accelerating the creation and application of innovations that improve health, and inspiring and developing the next generation of researchers, leaders, and innovators.

With this vision in mind, the new director will be expected to:

  • Develop specific goals and milestones for creating the center
  • Recruit research-intensive faculty with a range of complementary experience and expertise
  • Integrate current and developing research programs within the Center
  • Build upon the expanded scale of the enterprise and capitalize on new opportunities created by developments in science and technology to generate and apply new knowledge to treatment and prevention of brain disease
  • Create robust mentorship structures to support career development of investigators in the center
  • Provide resources and guidance to foster faculty success
  • Inspire, motivate, and build trust across the neuroscience community
  • Identify synergies between investigators across a variety of related fields, and create opportunities for meaningful engagement and collaboration
  • Engage creatively and energetically with potential benefactors
  • While maintaining their own active research program, prioritize the success of others, and the center at large.

WFUSM is home to nationally and internationally recognized research in Alzheimer's Disease, Aging and Mobility, Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes and Obesity, Cancer, Neurosciences, and Regenerative Medicine. Research excellence, coupled with a robust Informatics data infrastructure, clinically integrated implementation science efforts, and a firm commitment to the promotion of health equity renders the WFUSM a rich environment for breakthroughs in the mechanisms underlying disease as well as prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and improvements in quality of life. We are in a phase of unprecedented growth and evolution and will recruit over 40 new research-intensive faculty to bolster our commitment to growing our Academic Learning Health System.
