About this opportunity: We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel, Labor and Employment, to provide legal counsel and guidance on all employment related matters on a global basis, including management of employment-related disputes and litigation; drafting and negotiating employment contracts, policies, and plans; assisting with regulatory compliance; providing employment law training; and engaging local external counsel, as needed. The role is principally US based, with the work performed in a hybrid manner with an office-first approach. What you will do:
- Work in Group Function Legal Affairs Global Employment Law and report to the Associate General Counsel, Employment.
- Work with the Employment Law Team globally to cover all employment-related matters in over 100 countries and for 94,000+ employees globally to:
- Select, hire, and manage/provide oversight of local legal counsel, where needed.
- Partner with the People team to provide guidance and counsel on employment law-related matters.
- Function as the front-line legal advisor for all employment law-related legal and personnel matters, consulting with external counsel as needed.
- Handle day-to-day management of employment-related disputes, claims, lawsuits, and/or administrative tribunal actions, coordinating legal strategy with external counsel and the business/People team responsible.
- Engage in group-wide projects with Employment Law related angles.
- Stay abreast of employment-related laws, regulations and court decisions that may impact Ericsson and the assigned region and ensure that Ericsson's policies and practices comply, partnering with other Functions as appropriate.
- Assist with employment terminations or severe discipline matters and planned group reductions-in-force or layoffs.
- Assist in providing local reviews of global policies, bonus plans, template agreements, legal compliance, and global programs.
- Provide other services, as able, including global employment law training.
- Focus on anticipation, prevention, proactive counsel, risk management and developing best-in-class practices and processes. You will efficiently assist with needed legal intervention, manage legal risks, minimize costs by effectively managing legal issues in-house and reduce reliance on external counsel (where possible), and maintain a proactive communication with the People team and business.
The skills you bring:
- J.D. and/or LLM degree, notable academic achievement, and be a Bar member.
- At least 10-12 years of hands-on experience as a labor and employment attorney, in-house experience is a big plus.
- Experience in a multinational matrix organization.
- A solid track record in effective stakeholder engagement, building relationships and engaging at all levels, and internationally, with high levels of initiative, confidence, and ability to influence others.
- An ability to issue spot and connect dots, with a proactive solutions oriented mindset.
- Excellent negotiation, oral, and written communication skills.
- Be nimble, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- A high level of self-accountability, with ability to work on projects of high complexity in an independent manner effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Be able to maintain strict confidentiality and take all precautions when handling sensitive information.
