The ideal candidate will have:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in the electrical power generation field, to include four (4) years of experience as a Control Center Operator I or the equivalent journeyman level power plant operator (required).
  • Experience in providing formal training, coaching, leadership, and work guidance in a Power Plant Operations setting (required).
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience training adult learners in a Utilities, heavy machinery, or industrial environment to include curriculum development, instructional facilitation and technical training delivery (preferred).
  • Technical training related certifications (CompTIA CTT+) (preferred).
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Instructional design background a plus
  • Excellent Communication & Presentation skills
  • Comfortable speaking to audiences

Salary Range: $38.96 - $ 48.71 per hour - commensurate with experience

Job Purpose:

Supports the OUC Technical Training organization, concentrating on development, scheduling and delivery of technical training for the power production operations personnel. Assists in the development and execution of power production, and operations of field worker training programs including technical manuals and training documents. Provides technical guidance and hands on training opportunities for Power Production Operations and provides oversight and direction for initial refresher and continual training for all appropriate power production ops personnel. Instructs and coaches employees to work safely and within company work procedures. Monitors power productions apprenticeship progression and competency-based training and testing. Provides expertise for the development and training of Safe Work Practices.

Primary Functions:

  • Participate in designing and developing training curriculum, to include enhancing, modifying, customizing, and updating; support the development of curriculum needed by power production operations and other supported business units;
  • Provide classroom and field-based instruction through multiple modes of instruction while creating a positive learning atmosphere; provide instructor led product training on tools and appliances that directly affect power production operations;
  • Partner with leadership to conduct needs analyses to determine training needs and evaluate existing programs; conduct post-training field reviews and observations to assess training effectiveness;
  • Develop training coursework and technical classes, and approve the curriculum used for power production operations personnel;
  • Evaluate how training is being administered including the selection, coaching and development of guest instructors;
  • Develop a plan for on-the-job training and continuing education to provide a mechanism to learn, practice and later assess job skills;
  • Ensure training records are organized and maintained in training and employee files;
  • Identify, research, and support the maintenance and implementation of Web Based and Simulation Training programs to support the broader progression program, including in-house development of computer-based training or vendor supplied programs; contribute to creation of eLearning and hands-on content for students;
  • Participate in identifying and deploying leading edge training technologies;
  • Periodically meet with and conduct field observations of employees to determine their level of progression, answer technical questions, solicit course feedback, and provide support to those employees that may be experiencing problems understanding equipment, processes, or procedures;
  • Develop, build and maintain the training facilities, building, equipment, and tools;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of but not limited to the following:
  • Engineering drawings, construction standards manual, Equipment/Operator manuals, materials standards manual; and safe work practices;
  • Training records/transcripts, modules (i.e. electronic and/or paper), and materials (i.e. handouts, learning objectives, tests, evaluations);
  • Software Applications (i.e. Learning Management System [Cornerstone preferred])
  • Equipment (i.e. Scaffolding, all tools and equipment required to operate as a Power Plant Control Center Operator and Material Handling Equipment Operator);
  • Related industry, organizational and departmental regulatory guidelines, best practices, and procedures;
  • Familiarity with but not limited to the following:
  • Training and development practices and methodologies to include:
  • Instructional methodology and system design;
  • Training needs analysis;
  • Training program evaluation (i.e. participant feedback, training effectiveness, and ROI measurement);
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) safety regulations;
  • Prefer familiarity/working knowledge of:
  • General Physics Learnings (GPIs) & Job Performance Measures (JPMs);
  • Training authoring tools (e.g. Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or similar);
  • Strong organizational and interpretation skills involving all levels of employees within an organization as well as external training content vendors;
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Leadership skills to develop students to their full potential;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide coaching to leaders in their job development efforts of their employees;
  • Ability to design cost effective training programs from concept through implementation and assess;
  • Ability to leverage training software (LMS, Power Point, Authoring tools);
  • Maintain rapport with students providing an inclusive and positive influence;
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

Working Conditions:

This job requires periodic, extended work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. This work environment includes areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, confined spaces, excessive noise, chemicals, noxious fumes, vibration, extreme heat (non-weather), insects, and occasionally extreme weather conditions. This job may involve risk of electrical shock and expected to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary to mitigate risk.

Physical Requirements:

This job includes very frequent speaking/ hearing, writing/ typing, and detailed inspection. This job requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending. There may be occasional climbing, kneeling, reaching over head, and lifting up to fifty (50) lbs. Also, this job includes very frequent driving of a company vehicle with the expectation to maintain the ability to legally operate the company vehicle.
