Pulmonary Function Technician

Under general supervision and medical direction, has responsibility for the daily operations of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement and a basic understanding of respiratory physiology.

Education:
Two (2) year training program
Licensures/Certifications:
Healthcare Provider CPR Certification, Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
Experience:
One year of related work experience
Skills:
* Basic knowledge of pulmonary function procedures
* Basic knowledge of computer applications
* Skill in typing and other various clerical related duties, including scheduling and patient registration.
* Skill in performing mathematical computations
* Skill in analyzing test results
* Ability to lead less-experienced personnel.
* Ability to organize and direct work flow
* Ability to multi task and manage Pulmonary Lab operations and responsibilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Responsible for operation and scheduling of staff, vendors, and patients within the Pulmonary Function Lab.
* Performs a variety of pulmonary tests following prescribed procedures, such as spirometry, lung volumes, flow volume loops, single breath diffusing capacity and Pulmonary exercise tests, and monitored and 6 minute walking oximetry. Calculates test results. Verifies accuracy of test data, and delivers results in a timely manner. Elicits and enter interpretation data from instrumentation for MD to review.
* Confirms patient ID using 2 identifiers, confers with patients to explain nature of tests to allay fears and elicit cooperation in age-specific terms while assuring patient confidentiality and privacy. Completes Medication Reconciliation form for each bronchodilator patient
* Obtains pertinent information, records on requisition and inputs information into computer. Records patient treatment, tapes charts for readings and prepares test and chart for physician interpretation, including list of patient's medications. In the absence of medical secretary, can pre-register patients and obtain authorizations.
* Checks and re-programs pulmonary function equipment when malfunction occurs, utilizing specific troubleshooting procedures. Regularly calibrates and cleans pulmonary function equipment as guided by manufacturer and ATS standards.
* Designs and implements appropriate quality management monitors to assess the quality and appropriateness of the laboratory operations, composes and updates policies and procedures relating to pulmonary function equipment and processes.
* Delivers accurate monthly Quality Management reports to the Medical Director of the Pulmonary Lab and delivers tests daily to interpreting physician.
* Draws, runs, and reports arterial blood gases and other related diagnostic tests, appropriately reports and documents critical values. Performs records and reports portable spirometry and walking pulse-oximetry procedures and appropriately documents and reports data.
* Verifies patient charges and prepares and submits all patient charges in relation to pulmonary function testing and arterial blood gases. Maintains patient files and accurate records relative to Pulmonary function testing and arterial blood gases while assuring patient confidentiality.
* Assists/ with /Coordinates projects, activities, services or functions relating to the Pulmonary Function Lab. Enters and Verifies patient charges.

Pay Range

$25.88 - $42.44

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
