What We Do Claims Counsel are attorneys who are responsible for investigating and handling claims to resolution. The Claims Counsel reports to the Claims Center Director or the Regional Claims Mgr. if in a satellite office. (Please refer to the Corporate Claims Analyst job family if incumbent is not an attorney).

Essential Functions

  • Investigate, evaluate, determine loss and defense coverage liability and resolve claims
  • Establish settlement and expense reserves
  • Determine need to retain outside counsel
  • Manage claims and/or litigation through to final resolution
  • Negotiate with claimant / opposing counsel / third parties for resolution
  • Attend mediations and other required court appearances / processes
  • Review and approve invoices for costs and attorneys' fees
  • Perform / assist initial evaluation for recovery

  • Assignments are routine in nature and instructions are usually detailed. Has minimum latitude for un- reviewed action or decision. Acts in advisory capacity, making recommendations which may have an important bearing on the conduct of the organization's business

Supervision Received or Extended

  • Works under general supervision setting own priorities and objectives. Work reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall accuracy
  • No responsibility for supervision of others

  • Knows fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and organizational skills

Typical Education

  • Law Degree required
  • Admitted to practice law in US

Typical Range of Experience

  • Typically has 2- 4 years professional experience in title insurance / title underwriting and knowledge on insurance claims and resolution
  • Must be Bilingual in English/Spanish

License or Certification

  • Licensed to practice law in good standing

This is a Hybrid role.

The pay range for this role is $75,400.00 - $100,500.00

This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
