The utility industry is undergoing rapid growth and change; as result customers will be increasingly dependent on Itron to help them translate dynamic business and technical needs into deployable solutions. As a Technical Sales Engineer you will operate as a trusted advisor and technical sales interface between Itron and our current & future customers.

Your engagement will be focused on municipal and investor-owned water utilities in North America and will be consultative in nature. You will be counseling them on available technologies and helping them to understand how the Itron product family will best fit their needs, integrate with their current systems, and address their many challenges both today and in the future.

You will prepare and deliver presentations, demonstrations, provide bi-directional feedback, be closely involved with evaluations/pilot deployments, and take responsibility for ultimate client technical satisfaction. During this process you and your Sales team must remain in constant synchronization to make sure that each understands where they are in relation to their overall plan and account strategy.

This role is a leadership position and is expected to utilize the full resources of the company in a collaborative fashion to build the technical customers' trust and business.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in sales/systems engineering roles

  • Strong technical, sales, and presentation skills as well as the ability to present complex ideas and concepts clearly to all levels

  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at large accounts, and across diverse stake-holder groups

  • Have a track record with products and/or services that require longer term consultative engagements

  • Must be self-directed, highly motivated, and able to exercise independent judgment

  • Exceptional initiative and creativity in the development of solutions for customers

  • Ability to balance and drive multiple simultaneous accounts to success

Technical Skills:

In-depth practical knowledge of:

  • The water metering and AMI industry in North America

  • AMI technologies for water utilities

  • Water metering

  • LAN/WAN networked systems

  • TCP/IP (ipv4 and ipv6)

  • IP Routing, Network security & VPN's

  • RF/Wireless networking

  • Cellular AMI

Education: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Location: This position can be located in central or eastern USA.

Physical Demands: This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.
