The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately 1 year.

The UCSF Office of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) provides expertise and resources to help the UCSF community maintain a safe workplace, ensure safe work practices, and preserve the environment. EH&S is responsible for the safety of all faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors.

EH&S also supports regulatory compliance for all campus workplace safety and environmental compliance issues including: biosafety, chemical safety, environmental protection, ergonomics, facilities safety, fire and life safety, industrial hygiene, radiation safety, laser safety, DEA controlled substance compliance, hazardous materials, spill response, food facility compliance and safety, safety training, personal protective equipment (PPE), asbestos, hazardous waste management, etc. The department also provides substantial safety and environmental program support to the UCSF Health System and several UCSF affiliates.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement EH&S programs/policies in one or more of the following areas: Fire Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Laboratory Safety, Environmental Health, Pest Control, Occupational Safety, Radiation Safety, Hazardous Materials Control, Hazardous Waste Management (including shipping), and other duties as assigned.
• Contribute to the development of EH&S programs, systems, and procedures.
• Maintain, develop, and improve fire drill and fire safety training programs.
• Conduct inspections of laboratories/facilities to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures; prepare reports.
• Provide training in specific program areas.
• Apply relevant laws, regulations, codes, and standards with minor refinements to procedures as applicable.
• Support compliance efforts for Title 19, Cal/OSHA, the Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements within the department.
• Maintain and apply working knowledge of technical aspects of various regulatory requirements and their impact on the operating unit.
• Schedule, coordinate, and conduct all required fire drills for UCSF Health in Hospitals, Ambulatory Clinics, and other locations as needed.
• Maintain records of all fire drills and employee training for Joint Commission or other outside agency inspection and auditing.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range. Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications

• Solid organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects.
• Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
• Working skills in the appropriate use of technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
• Valid CA Driver's license. Incumbent is subject to DMV pull notice program.
• Minimum of 1-year experience in the safety field with general understanding and knowledge of fire prevention.

Preferred Qualifications

• Solid, comprehensive working knowledge/understanding of a specific EH&S field including related laws and regulations, and general understanding of all EH&S fields.
• Knowledge of California Fire Code, California Code of Regulations Title 19, Public Safety, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, The Joint Commission or Center for Medicare Medicaid.
• Experience in the healthcare setting.
• Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Certifications in Fire Prevention, Environment, Health and Safety, Construction Safety, Laboratory Safety.
