Responsibilities

As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will be at the heart of our healthcare operations, performing a variety of essential functions, including:

  • Coordination & Communication: Accurately and efficiently perform coordinating functions while maintaining open lines of communication with patients, visitors, and the healthcare team.
  • Welcoming Environment: Greet patients and visitors with warmth and professionalism, providing them with the information and direction they need.
  • Information Management: Maintain unit information sources, including care assignments, to ensure smooth operations and effective patient care.
  • Prioritization: Assess and prioritize unit and patient needs in alignment with hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Order Processing: Process physician orders accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with scope of practice.
  • Patient Transitions: Efficiently manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, documenting all relevant information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Clerical Support: Provide essential clerical support to the unit and hospital, contributing to the overall efficiency of our healthcare services.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Demonstrate a customer service-oriented approach in all interactions, fostering a positive environment for patients and staff alike.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing systems and processes that support patient care.
  • Confidentiality: Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to all privacy regulations.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma is required; a Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary Certificate or a two-year degree in a related field is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a Health Unit Coordinator or Medical Secretary role is preferred.
  • Strong ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in computer and clerical skills.
  • A collaborative spirit, with the ability to build effective relationships with healthcare team members.
  • A commitment to delivering outstanding customer service in every interaction.

Pay range for this position is $20 to $26 depending on education and experience.
