Position Summary This position is responsible for assessing the organization's training needs and creating customized programs to improve or maintain job skills, while also supporting onboarding, orientation, and skills training initiatives. This role includes evaluating training materials, developing procedural manuals, and ensuring alignment with training objectives. The Specialist works closely with business units to define program goals, address challenges, and deliver training using a variety of methods, while also participating in instructional sessions as needed. The Specialist measures program effectiveness and tracks training activities and outcomes. They stay up to date with industry trends, prepare training status reports, and manage learning and development grants, including WAT and Fast Forward grants. Additionally, the Specialist oversees apprenticeship programs and acts as the main point of contact for technical college outreach. While the role does not include direct supervisory responsibilities, the Specialist serves as a coach and mentor for employees in their training and development efforts. Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally stand or walk; use hands to handle materials or equipment; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee's workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, areas of the work environment may not be climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc. Education and Experience
