Job Overview

The Lead Instrument/Sterile Processing Technician is crucial for patient safety and infection control, as they ensure the decontamination, reprocessing, and maintenance of surgical instruments, endoscopes, and patient care equipment. They proficiently operate various surgical instrument sterilizers and decontamination equipment. The Lead Technician serves as a surgical specialty liaison, further enhancing their role in supporting specialized procedures.

Job Status: 40 hours/week
Shift: 3:00pm-11:30PM Monday-Friday. Will participate in call and holiday rotation.

Qualifications

Education: High School or GED
Experience: 3 years of surgical instrumentation in a hospital sterile processing environment
Certification(s): Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER)

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

1. Anticipates OR needs and manages the workroom to minimize schedule delays.
2. Serves as the surgical specialty liaison to the Operating Room and Procedure Center.
3. Trains staff on cleaning and sterilization per instrument manufacturer guidelines.
4. Creates, updates, and inputs instrument set lists into the SPM system.
5. Performs decontamination of durable medical equipment and OR surgical instruments.
6. Ensures proper care, handling, and functionality of surgical instruments before reassembly.
7. Participates in professional education, maintains certifications, and stays updated on industry trends.
8. Precepts new employees, supporting their training and development.
9. Assists with staffing, planning, and specialized technical operations.
10. Oversees departmental operations in management's absence, applying policies and procedures.
11. Leads quality improvement efforts and may spearhead quality initiatives.
12. Communicates with medical and nursing staff about service changes and equipment needs, collaborating with vendors on loaner trays.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $48,962.61 to $73,443.91
Hourly Salary Range: $23.54 to $35.31
