Job Description

The School Of Medicine Pathology & Anatomical Sciences Department is hiring for one Medical Coding Specialist-Certified

The Medical Coding Specialist-Certified will perform the following:

Review documentation: Review for documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with coding guidelines.

Assign CPT and ICD- 10 codes: Accurately assign CPT and ICD-10 codes based on documentation and coding guidelines.

Denial: Review payer denials, responsible for correction and resubmission to obtain payment in a timely manner.

Payer Edits: Review and resolve payer edits that prevent claims from being processed or paid appropriately.

Compliance: Ensure that coding adheres to all legal, regulatory and payer-specific guidelines.

Collaboration: Work closely with providers and billing department for optimal claim submission and reimbursement.

Shift

Work Hours/Shift Shift Type: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
(Clinical) Office/Administrative Hours: Yes - Position will have Office/Admin Hours
Flexibility for Alternative Schedules: Yes

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Must have one of the following certifications:

--Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
--Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
--Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
--Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); or
--Certified Professional Coder (CPC/CPC-A)
--Certified Outpatient Coder (COC/COC-A)
--Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC/CIC-A) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC); or
Specialty certification per the department needs such as:
--Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC) by the American Medical Accounting and Consulting Inc (AMAC)

Preferred Qualifications

Credentials: Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
Years of Experience: 5 years' experience in pathology for hospital or physician practice

Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $22.00-$34.74/hour
Grade: PAT-007
University Title: MEDICAL CODING SPECIALIST-CERTIFIED
