The MANUFACTURING ENGINEER/PROGRAMMER is responsible for the technical management, Programing, Department support, Process improvement, and development of new and existing production processes and systems.
Creating CNC Programs per Engineered Processes and Customer Specifications:
- Custom Program Creation: Ensure that each CNC program is tailored to the specific requirements of the job, whether it's for custom parts or mass production. Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to fully understand the customer's requirements and specifications.
- Customer Specifications: Use the customer-provided drawings and specifications to design and generate CNC programs. If any discrepancies or questions arise regarding specifications, consult with the customer early to prevent delays or errors.
- Continuous Improvement: Create a feedback loop where post-production reviews of completed parts can inform adjustments to future programming to enhance precision, speed, and quality.
Collaborative Problem-Solving Across Departments:
- Cross-Department Communication: Foster a collaborative environment where engineering, production, quality, and other departments regularly meet to discuss process improvements, troubleshooting, and new projects.
- Root Cause Analysis: When issues arise, use problem-solving techniques (such as Fishbone diagrams or 5 Whys) to identify the root cause of manufacturing concerns and create action plans to address them.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging team members to propose new ideas, discuss challenges openly, and actively participate in process optimization initiatives.
Set-Up and Operation CNC Machines:
- Ability to assist team members in setup and operation of CNC Machines
Maintain and Update CAM Software:
- Regular Software Updates: Stay current with the latest versions of CAM software to take advantage of new features and capabilities. This may involve working with IT or software vendors to ensure that the latest patches and updates are installed.
- Optimize Programs: Utilize the latest tools and optimizations within the CAM software to reduce cycle times, improve tool life, and increase the overall quality of the output.
Enhancing Efficiency:
- Standardize Workflows: Create standardized procedures for common tasks across the manufacturing process to reduce variability and errors. Utilize Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to identify waste and inefficiencies in the system.
- Time and Motion Studies: Perform detailed time and motion studies to identify bottlenecks and areas where time can be saved or tasks can be streamlined.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Implement data analytics to monitor real-time performance metrics, identify inefficiencies, and pinpoint improvement opportunities across production lines.
- Set-Up Sheets: Develop detailed set-up sheets that include information on tooling, machine settings, fixture requirements, and part-specific details to ensure smooth setup processes and minimize errors.

Education/Experience
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Automation, process control, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.
- Minimum: 5 years related manufacturing experience.
- Preferred: Medical or Aerospace/Defense Industry experience
- 2-5 years hands-on machining experience and/or experience working in a machine shop
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, Solidworks or similar CAD software, CAM software, Esprit or Cam works preferred, and capable of learning M1 Manufacturing Planning system.
- Ability to read and interpret prints that utilize GD&T.
- Excellent reading comprehension.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Organized, with an aptitude for manufacturing processes.
- Able to work with people in a professional manner.
