Basic Function

As a member of the dynamic team, you will provide project controls guidance and support to capital projects in the Global Projects organization. This will include providing look-ahead forecasting and trend analysis, monitoring commitments, budgets, invoicing, cash flow forecast and preparing the feedback dossier for the Estimating group.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assists the Project Controls Manager in ensuring the establishment and consistent application of project cost and earned value best practices according to LYB established procedures.
  • Provide project cost, quantity, manpower, and earned value metric reporting as well as analysing cost and productivity variances. Provide the project team with areas of concern as soon as possible.
  • Assures that the project cost system(s) is functioning as required to provide the project team with accurate and timely data.
  • Establishes & maintains the WBS in SAP.
  • Tracks, analyzes, & reports cost/schedule information.
  • Assists project team in resolution of issues involving cost, schedule, & changes.
  • Provides cost information in support of the project's Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimate.
  • Ensure required resources and effective processes are in place to execute the project control plans.
  • Apply/follow effective changes management processes to ensure capital discipline.
  • Lead forecasting/reporting of cost/schedule performance throughout project life cycle.
  • Support common methods & standard reporting format for reports.
  • Conduct post project audits to collect actual data versus estimated data for the purpose of making adjustments to estimating assumptions and processes.
  • Ensure that relevant cost management procedures and reporting requirements are incorporated where appropriate in the contractor's scope of services.
  • Reviews the cost estimates, man-hour budgets, scope changes, and budget revisions produced by contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Report project cost to management as well as analyzing cost and schedule variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in cost engineering principles and methods including budgeting and forecasting, change management systems/ procedures, work breakdown structures, earned value systems, contingency allocation
  • Ensure that at project conclusion, all cost related items are properly closed out.

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or Business degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years functional experience in the areas of cost control, scheduling, estimating, construction project controls in the chemical/petrochemical or similar industry is required.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with SAP and Microsoft Excel.
  • PIMS experience or familiarity.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with project planning, scheduling and execution.
  • Knowledge of risk management and analysis.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to effectively evaluate system performance, troubleshooting and mastery of continuous process improvement tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interface with and relate complex concepts/issues with all levels.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring and teamwork skills with the ability to effectively transfer technical expertise to less experienced project control professionals.
  • Ability to develop suitable training materials specific to discipline.
