The Director of Firmware Engineering will lead the firmware development strategy for Chamberlain's diverse range of door, gate, and barrier openers, as well as an expanding portfolio of IoT and RF-based products. This pivotal role will drive the entire firmware development lifecycle, ensuring innovation, quality, and scalability from concept through to product release. The Director will oversee a geographically dispersed team and manage a substantial budget, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market demands.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams across engineering, software development, manufacturing, and product management to deliver cutting-edge firmware solutions. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading large, high-performing firmware/software teams, leveraging modern development tools, and fostering continuous improvement in quality and productivity. Expertise in agile methodologies and a results-oriented approach will be essential for optimizing team performance and achieving organizational goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Define and lead the implementation of firmware architecture and design standards, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and product strategies.

  • Provide strategic oversight for the end-to-end firmware development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and release.

  • Set and enforce industry-leading coding standards, best practices, and quality benchmarks across all firmware development initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineering, to achieve seamless integration and optimal performance.

  • Anticipate and resolve complex technical challenges, ensuring project momentum and the delivery of innovative solutions while strategically guiding code review processes to elevate quality.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance development methodologies, tools, and workflows, leveraging cutting-edge technologies.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous learning and improvement, to drive team and product excellence.

  • Translate customer requirements and feedback into prioritized firmware features and solutions that drive business value.

  • Ensure the timely delivery of robust, future-ready firmware solutions that align with organizational objectives and drive competitive advantage.

  • Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.

  • Protect Chamberlain Group's reputation by keeping information confidential.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 15+ years of experience in firmware engineering, including 10+ years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record of leading and mentoring engineering teams.

  • Experience with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time domestically and internationally

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong technical expertise in embedded systems, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., IEC, UL, FCC).

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) product development experience

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stack development experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to efficiently communicate to all levels of organization or outside partners

The payrange of pay for this position is $159,500 - $257,000; base payoffered may vary depending on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. In addition to base pay, also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).This position is eligible for participation in a short-term incentive plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
