Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Created in 2012, the Carolina Higher Education Opportunity Programs (
CHEOP) office Comprises the NC Health Careers Access Program (NC-
HCAP) and TRiO Programs (Upward Bound Program and the McNair Scholars Program).
Project Uplift became a part of the
CHEOP organization in November 2024. Project Uplift provides programming and college information to students interested in attending
UNC - Chapel Hill. NC-
HCAP and TRiO Programs,
CHEOP promotes and maintains Programs, activities, and services that facilitate access to College, Graduate and Ph.D. Programs, as well as Health Professional Schools for individuals from first generation status, rural and/or low- income backgrounds. The Programs under
CHEOP enhance participants' academic performance, retention, and personal and professional development to promote graduation in secondary and post-secondary education. |
Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The
CHEOP Administrative Support Specialist serves as the front-line representative for the
CHEOP Office. The selected candidate is responsible for answering phone calls, greeting students, parents/guardians, campus, and community partners. In addition to being customer-centered, s/he is responsible for providing budgetary support and the creation of reports.
The selected candidate will have working knowledge with accounting and human resource related systems such as Infoporte, GradStar, PeopleSoft, Connect Carolina, Buy Carolina, etc. and will serve as the Liaison between the
CHEOP Office and the Unified Business Cluster (
UBC). As the
CHEOP Administrative Support Specialist, the selected candidate will (ideally) have working knowledge of University processes and procedures, the processing of independent contractor forms, the facilitation of journal entries, P-Card purchases, purchase orders, requisitions, etc.
Finally, the selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with the onboarding of new
CHEOP team members, the oversight of student worker assignments/projects, and attend/participate in selected
CHEOP programs and events. Other duties as assigned. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |

Strong written and oral communication skills.
