The Department of Ophthalmology and its committed team of faculty, staff, and researchers, are dedicated to high-quality resident education, excellence in patient care, and a commitment to advancing the science of Ophthalmology and Vision Science. The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine is offering a three year fellowship in Ophthalmology and Vision science research.The fellowship runs from May 2025 through May 2028.The fellow would manage three basic and translational research projects under one-on-one mentorship from Ophthalmology faculty. The fellow would be expected to submit and present abstracts at annual meetings and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. Essential Functions Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology. Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research. Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results. Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing. Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise. Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed. May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff and students. Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well. Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Required Education Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent in a relevant field). In-depth knowledge of Ophthalmology and Molecular genetics. Required Experience At least two years of prior laboratory experience with cell culture, protein and DNA manipulation, animal experimentation. Experience with software programs in use in the laboratory, including Excel, PowerPoint, Prism, Word desirable. Physical Requirements/Work Environment Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
