A full-time Biomedical Research Technician I position is available in the Brain Aging and Dementia (BAnD) Laboratory at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. The Technician would contribute to research using advanced neuroimaging to examine the impact of aging, Alzheimer's disease, and cerebrovascular disease on brain structure and function. The Research Technician I would contribute to a range of activities in the laboratory including statistical analysis, image processing, programming, and conduction of research visits with study participants. The successful candidate would be trained to be proficient in image processing software that is used for our research.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required and Bachelor's Degree Biology preferred

Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training: Undergraduate degree in neuroscience, computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, or related field required.

EXPERIENCE:

Prior laboratory experience preferably in Neuroscience preferred

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential responsibilities of this position include:

  • Data processing using specialized image processing software
  • Statistical analysis
  • Data management including the development of code for the organization and processing of large amounts of heterogeneous data
  • Data acquisition using biomedical devices at research study visits

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Preferred prior experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or R
  • Preferred basic statistical background (advanced is preferable)
  • Motivation to learn to use cutting edge scientific software and research equipment
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
  • Candidates must be able to work with complex clinical populations.


Physical Requirements

  • This work may involve some lifting and other non-strenuous physical activities. Day to day operations are performed at the Charlestown Navy Yard.
