The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Pay Range: $80,300.00 - $120,400.00

Job Description

About the Role:

The Lead Internal Communications Representative conceives, develops, and implements communication strategies and tactics aimed at engaging and informing University employee and occasionally student audiences. The incumbent is a senior member of the Internal Communications team, consulting with and supporting senior management across the organization to deliver strategic, well-planned communication to employees and students. This role will partner closely with different teams and leaders across the entire University while demonstrating the ability to solve complex problems and to maintain a flexible and solution-oriented mindset. This role will put communication plans into action, creating and crafting compelling written and visual communications for multiple audiences while using different channels including the University Intranet. The Lead will work effectively with teammates and internal clients alike, influence at all levels, adapt quickly when needed, and be willing to support projects outside of the core role in order to help advance the University's mission and vision.

Location:This position requires you to be located in or around Salt Lake City, UTwith the ability to work 4 days per week in-office at our headquarters: 4001 South 700 East Salt Lake City, UT 84107.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, develop, and execute communication strategies.
  • Develop audience-specific messaging and draft messages for senior leaders.
  • Plan and implement annual all hands meeting and other in-person events.
  • Advise key internal stakeholders on employee experience and culture initiatives ensuring alignment with the University's Mission, Vision, and Leadership Principles.
  • Understand and anticipate communication and change plan risks and take action to address as appropriate.
  • Partner with other communicators at the University to ensure cohesive communications across the organization.
  • Track effectiveness of communication plans and campaigns and changes course as needed based on feedback. Will apply the learnings to make the communications process more efficient for future projects.
  • Create and advise on high quality, compelling communications at the organizational level for a variety of channels (email, presentations, posters, live events, videos, internal websites, social media, etc.)
  • Develop internal social media tools aimed at increasing employee engagement and focus on process improvement and student success.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures relating to internal communications.
  • Support special initiatives as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities You'll Need to be Successful:

  • Proven consulting skills with the ability to work across all levels of an organization successfully advising, guiding, and influencing key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional and effective written and verbal communication skills; including message development and writing, speech writing, script writing, video storyboarding, and presentation preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong trusted relationships and foster collaboration and teamwork.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills using a structured approach.
  • Demonstrated change management communication skills related to employee experience.
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of and experience utilizing a variety of employee communication vehicles such as Intranet, social media, new technologies and processes to drive employee engagement.
  • Ability to extract, assess, and simplify information from a variety of sources to present in a clear manner, using a variety of communication channels.
  • Ability to generate and implement innovative ideas to engage and inform stakeholders.
  • Strong survey writing and development skills.
  • Strong understanding of current/future workplace trends that impact a highly diverse employee base.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Organizational Development, or related field of study
  • 7 years of experience in internal communications, public relations, human resources communication, higher education communication, or technology communication.
  • Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Communications, English, Organizational Development, or related field of study
  • Proficiency working with SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency working with multi-media including video

Position & Application Details

Full-Time Regular Positions (classified as regular and working 40 standard weekly hours): This is a full-time, regular position (classified for 40 standard weekly hours) that is eligible for bonuses; medical, dental, vision, telehealth and mental healthcare; health savings account and flexible spending account; basic and voluntary life insurance; disability coverage; accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity supplemental coverages; legal and identity theft coverage; retirement savings plan; wellbeing program; discounted WGU tuition; and flexible paid time off for rest and relaxation with no need for accrual, flexible paid sick time with no need for accrual, 11 paid holidays, and other paid leaves, including up to 12 weeks of parental leave.
