Job Overview
Responsible for the management of the Career Technical Training and the Academics Department. Provides for maximum program coordination, student safety and well-being in accordance with government, corporate, and management directives. For over 50 years, Job Corps has helped young people achieve successful careers in some the country's fastest-growing industries. Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Gulfport Job Corps Center is a part of the nation's largest career technical training and education program.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Plans, coordinates and manages the administrative and programmatic activities of the CTT and Academic departments.
- Evaluates the performance of staff through regular observation and recommends and implements department and personnel changes as approved by the Center Director and human resources prior to implementation.
- Develops departmental budgets monitors and controls expenditures; reviews and recommends changes to budget authorizations.
- Implements new and revised policies and procedures affecting the departments; coordinates with other departments to ensure compliance with overall center objectives.
- Conducts reviews/audits of assigned areas on a regular basis to ensure contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students
- Regularly inspects facilities; maintains quality standards.
- Manages the development and implementation of programs for the department; directs program changes; coordinates programs to meet student needs.
- Conducts staff training to develop greater proficiency in providing guidance and social adjustment counseling to student.
- Provides personal, motivational counseling to students; participates in or refers students for guidance and counseling activities as needed.
- Coordinates academic, and career training activities, problem solving, and interdepartmental programs with other departments; assists in organizing awards and graduation ceremonies.
- Assists the business and community liaison in the development of community, state, and regional linkages and volunteers, participates in community relations and industry council activities.
- Coordinates student placement with the career development department.
- Reviews, reports and processes accident/injury reports for staff and student job related injuries. Identifies unsafe practices and develops corrective measures to minimize risk and lost time accidents in accordance with corporate, government and Job Corps regulations.
- Monitors student progress in the CTT and Academics program and ensures compliance with established corporate and Department of Labor Data Integrity guidelines.
- Ensures career education services are coordinated, provided in a quality manner, and achieve the expected outcomes.
- Ensures academic and CTT work-based learning services are coordinated, providing a quality manner, and achieve the expected outcomes.
- Supports and promotes centers zero tolerance policies.
- Participates in student employability programs and activities.
- Promotes the development of career success standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
- Cultivates and maintains a climate on Center that is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn
- Maintains accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Bachelor's degree in vocational, academic or related field.
- Four (4) years related experience. Two (2) of which must be in a management capacity.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
