Job Summary

PVCC is seeking a Laboratory Technician who will report to the laboratory specialist supervisor. The technician works with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students in the instructional areas of physical sciences and life sciences laboratories (Biology, Physics, Engineering, Astronomy, Geology, Chemistry). Responsibilities include organizing and preparing materials and equipment for lab experiments, maintaining a safe and clean lab environment, managing the inventory of lab materials, handling lab waste, and ensuring compliance with safety practices.

Essential Functions

25% Provides basic coordination and oversight of student compliance, responds to inquiries, and solves problems in accordance with policies and procedures.

25% Performs basic research and preliminary analysis related to program assignment; gathers pertinent information and compiles, analyzes, and summarizes data and information.

25% Assists in providing instruction, training, and advisement of assigned areas or specialized fields to students. Assists the Program Director with developing and implementing program guidelines, forms, policies, and procedures. Creates original correspondence, reports, presentations, documents, and program materials. Assists in ordering supplies for five program labs, including food supplies weekly for courses in the kitchen.

10% Provides basic program information to students, faculty, staff, and the public; provides troubleshooting support to resolve issues. Organizes, updates, and maintains program records, files, manuals, and/or documentation. Prepares, processes, and/or reconciles transactions, forms, paperwork and/or system data.

5% Serves as a program liaison, providing processes, procedural coordination, and support. Maintains supplies inventory and storage areas and assists with the purchase requisitioning process. Coordinates repairs and maintenance services with other resources as required. Monitors and ensures compliance with policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of laboratory experience in maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies, or other resources used for laboratory purposes in the area of assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience in Laboratory Operations (2+ Years): At least two years of verifiable experience working in a laboratory setting, particularly in dietetic nutrition labs, as demonstrated by previous job roles and responsibilities listed on the resume.
  2. Proven Inventory Management Experience: Documented experience managing laboratory supplies and equipment inventory, including tracking, ordering, and organizing materials, as highlighted in specific job functions or achievements.
  3. My Clinical Exchange and American Database program experience: Documentation of problem-solving to move students toward program compliance.
  4. Experience in an academic program with accreditation: Demonstrated experience in data collection, practicum competencies, or providing direction to student interns or other team members, as evidenced by previous leadership roles or team management responsibilities.
  5. Technical Proficiency with Laboratory Equipment and Software: Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting specific laboratory equipment and using relevant software (e.g., inventory management systems, Microsoft Office, or lab-specific software), as listed under technical skills or job descriptions on the resume.
