The Department of Neurology at Columbia University is seeking a full-time neurologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level for the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center in the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine. This position will support the clinical activities of the ALS Center and the Division, which include active multi-specialty care ALS clinics.

The ALS Center, together with the Center for Motor Neuron Biology and Disease (MNC) at Columbia, operates an integrated ALS research program, including basic, translational and clinical research studies focused on the development of novel therapeutics through a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this effort by building an independent research program with extramural research funding.

What we are seeking:



  • Neurologist with strong clinical and academic background who desires to develop in-house clinical trials or a successful basic or translational research program.
  • Board certification in Neurology and preferably, Neuromuscular Medicine (not required).
  • Clinical expertise in ALS care, and neuromuscular disease generally. The position includes inpatient/outpatient consultation and the teaching of medical student, residents and fellows.
  • Demonstrated commitment to education and a record of scholarly accomplishment in the form of either prior research publications, externally funded research grants and/or clinical trial leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing the highest quality care to patients with ALS and other neuromuscular disorders.
  • Academic credentials commensurate with appointment at the Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • Eligibility for appointment to the professional clinical staff at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
  • Excellent interpersonal, clinical, and teaching skills.




  • MD or MD/PhD
  • M.D., board certification in Neurology is required; board eligibility/certification in EMG/neuromuscular medicine or clinical neurophysiology is preferred, but not required. Applicants must be licensed in New York State before appointment begins. Faculty rank is expected to be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with experience and achievement. Assistant Professor level candidates must provide evidence of training and have some teaching experience. Must be able to meet New York Presbyterian and ColumbiaDoctors credentialing
