JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Radiology, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Safety Officer. The MR Safety Officer, (also known as the Medical Health Physicist), reports directly to the MR Safety Expert, and will be responsible for the day-to-day MR safety operations of seventeen MR systems. You will be a resource and collaborate with leadership, MR technologists, physicians, and physicists to expand access to MRI and increase efficiency, all while improving safety for our patients and staff. This role offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and learning. We seek an MRSO who takes initiative and requires limited supervision. This position will be partially remote and have flexible hours.

Additional duties include:

* Provide risk assessment and research for patients with implanted devices, on planted devices, foreign bodies, or other conditions such as claustrophobia, anxiety, and altered mental status. * Consult with the Magnetic Resonance Medical Director (MRMD) and the Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE) as needed to ensure comprehensive patient care and safety. * Assist in scheduling patients with MR safety concerns. * Establish and facilitate workflow for active device management. * Develop, document, and enforce MR safety policies, procedures, and guidelines that balance risk and access. * Ensure compliance with FDA, ACR, TJC, and Penn State regulations and requirements. * Provide and document MR safety training to staff and others. * Assists MRI technologists with protocol and sequence modifications necessary to ensure safety. * Perform regular audits to ensure all safety protocols are being followed. * Analyze/document MR safety incidents and assist with root cause analyses. * Attend meetings and report on safety incidents. * Assist in building a strong MR safety culture. * Assist with MR safety-related risk analyses and proactive safety planning, including failure mode and effects and fault tree analyses. * Respond to various emergencies in the MRI environment as needed. * Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned, which may include participating in research projects, contributing to safety-related publications, assisting with quality management, and developing new MR safety initiatives.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • No prior relevant work experience required
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experienc

The following clearances must be successfully completed for this position:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
  • A motor vehicle check is required for this position and must be updated every three years.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $115,100.00
