SEMCO Energy - Operations Technician (Battle Creek)

Our Battle Creek-based Operations team is seeking an Operations Technician! Under general supervision, the Operations Technician supports the Operations Department with a variety of field duties within the assigned geographic area.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the damage prevention awareness program.

  • Maintain knowledge of Public Act 53 (Protection of Underground Facilities).

  • Prepare coordinates, and records work orders and cost estimates.

  • Prepare new service investigation forms with estimated service length and sketch.

  • Adhere to all internal company control procedures and financial processes.

  • Coordinate with customers, homeowners, builders, municipalities, and businesses regarding service routes and construction requirements.

  • Communicate with pipeline contractors and internal stakeholders regarding any installation needs.

  • Represent the company at various pre-construction meetings.

  • Update operation-based databases as needed.

  • Prepares and presents regular and special reports to leadership.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field, assisting Supervisors as needed.

  • Maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • A high school diploma or successful completion of the GED is required, supplemented with college courses or vocational training in drafting, surveying, electrical, circuits wiring, or another related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical and/or gas distribution is required.

  • Knowledge of basic mechanical & electrical principles is preferred.

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills in addition to strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong customer service skills and a customer experience orientation.

  • Working knowledge of personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company (Microsoft Office Suite). Ability to learn new systems or software as necessary.

  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers, and management.

  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of Company assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.

  • This position is based in Battle Creek, MI.

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required, in addition to a background check.

We offer a competitive salary range of $48,000.00 - $77,000.00 commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
