Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Health, Physical, and Secondary Education ( HPSE) Department is housed within the College of Education. The principal purpose of the Department of Health, Physical and Secondary Education is to provide quality education for prospective facilitators of learning in physical education, secondary education subjects, community-based health education, public health, and sports management.
Description of Work Continued:
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of the position is to help facilitate and grow out new program in Public Health. The newly added program was created and began with the existing faculty within the department. This was feasible at the time of creation, but due to growth and curriculum adjustments, additional faculty are needed to sustain the program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Earned MPH and Ph.D. or equivalent research doctorate in public health or related discipline from an accredited institution. Must have a broad background in teaching undergraduate public health courses and be an effective team worker. Potential candidates must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills. The successful candidate must have demonstrated an interest and aptitude for teaching a diverse population of undergraduate students in support of the mission of an HBCU institution, an understanding of diversity and equity, and evidence of scholarly work and professional service. A.B.D. will be considered with a doctoral degree completion before the start of the semester.
Knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Teaching in a college/university public health program with evidence of scholarly contributions to the field and internship supervision experience.
  • Commitment to strong community organization outreach relationships and working in a diverse workplace.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in program accreditation.
Experience with program development and evaluation.
5+ years of experience with Public Health curriculum.
Strong research agenda and track record of applying for and securing grant funding.
Willingness to work collaboratively on research projects and grants.
