Job Overview

The Manager, Clinical Engineering is responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the department that tests, repairs and maintains biomedical patient care equipment and support equipment. This role is responsible for providing oversight and leadership for the clinical engineering department and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • EXPERIENCE - Five (5) years of experience in Biomedical Engineering or related experience
  • EQUIVALENCY - In lieu of a degree, additional biomedical experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis
Responsibilities

No direct patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
1.Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction (OTJ or formal training) and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; hires and fires team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.
2.Documents compliance and maintains metrics of biomedical engineering equipment testing and maintenance programs, regulations and industry specific compliance indicators.
3.Manages the day-to-day activity of the quality management system including the identification of risk issues, conducts investigations, audits and takes corrective and preventative action to mitigate risk.
4.Provides department with data, background content, efficiency recommendations, preventive maintenance schedules and reports on behalf of the equipment maintenance program.
5.Provides departmental performance metrics for analysis as requested by leadership and proposes budgetary cost efficiencies.
6.Serves on hospital committees as a subject matter expert on medical equipment technology as well as on international testing, quality management and standards.
7.Drafts and implements policies and procedures related to biomedical equipment and its maintenance.
8.Participates and contributes to departmental-wide strategies, policies and systems for workforce planning, recruitment, retention, occupational health and safety, education and training and performance management.
9.Ensures that clinical engineering staff is participating in ongoing training programs related to equipment operations, standards and maintenance.
10.Develops and implements a service delivery strategy within the department. Establishes a regular communication plan within the department.
11.Serves as a resource mentor for technology management issues within CHCO.

Guidelines: Guidelines are in the form of stated goals and objectives for function.

Complexity: Work assignment is unstructured and leader is responsible for implementing and managing a variety of objectives, resources, and initiatives to achieve the goals of the function. Duties performed include operational planning; developing standards, priorities, guidelines, processes, measurement (evaluation) systems; implementation of production and performance management standards; and allocating resources. Work is tactical and operational in nature.

Decision Making: Employee is responsible for planning, organizing, allocating resources, ensuring compliance with procedures, and achieving the objectives of the function.

Communications: Communication at this level is primarily internally focused and involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members, peers, directors, and executives. Provides guidance and interpretation of the enterprise's policies, procedures, and standards. Provides information to higher-level directors and executives.

Supervision Received: Responsible for achieving the objectives of function within the scope of established guidelines. Employee is expected to resolve problems that arise in the normal course of the work. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and feasibility of decisions.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $101,987.37 to $152,981.05
Hourly Salary Range: $49.03 to $73.55
