The Job

The primary responsibility for this position is to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, post payroll reporting and payroll accounting in a multi-state and multi-company environment, including but not limited to preparation of schedules, account reconciliations and audit support and analysis.

You Will



  • Process the bi-weekly payroll, including new hires, leaves of absences, bonus payments, other incentives/awards, retro payments, deductions, terminations, and transfers. Review and audit payroll reports and time entry validation to verify accuracy and to ensure wage and hour as well as payroll tax compliance.
  • Responsible for payroll accounting including review and preparation of schedules and account reconciliations. Provide general ledger support including GL mapping and reporting. Research and update accounting team related to payroll tax and payment services banking items.
  • Provide payroll metrics by developing high-level reports and spreadsheets to summarize detailed payroll information utilizing payroll system reporting tool and/or Excel. Prepare and/or maintain the monthly commission reconciliation, overtime premium calculation, eligible earnings accrual, FSA/HSA, grant data reporting, JED payroll posting, JED month end accrual and PTO reconciliations.
  • Support the interim and year-end financial audit process as well as annual workers comp audits.
  • Prepare reports, schedules and supporting documentation and provide to auditor as requested.
  • Serve as a resource and a back-up for payroll department functions, including manual check process and garnishment administration.
  • Serve as a backup to the Payroll Manager when unavailable or when assistance is needed on training, presentations, or other special projects.
  • Assist with review and the development of new policies and procedures including automation and efforts to streamline and improve processes.
  • Act as the subject matter expert with respect to payroll accounting standards, payroll wage and hour laws, as well as company compensation, retirement and benefit plans (i.e. 401(k), 457(b), 457(f), FSA/HSA, PTO Sharing).
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Actively support the achievement of SCAN's Vision and Goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Your Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience or comparable combination of education/experience and/or training will be considered equivalent to the education listed above.
  • 5-8 years payroll, tax and/or accounting work experience.
  • Knowledge of wage and hour laws, payroll & tax compliance.
  • Certified Payroll Professional Certificate is a plus
  • Working knowledge of UKG, Workday, Oracle, Concur, and Outlook a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel including vlookup, pivot tables and complex formulas
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll accounting, employment taxes, and wage/hour regulations.
  • Strong technical knowledge and analytical skills to support payroll account reconciliations.
  • Detail oriented,able to multi-task, prioritize and work under tight deadlines.
