The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its 250+ faculty and clinician members and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients.
Your Role on the Team
Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with programs and proposals with broad impact across the function, research initiative, program and / or organization. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes.
This role requires a dynamic and innovative individual with a passion for storytelling, relationship building, and leveraging diverse communication channels to inspire action and support. The qualified incumbent will operate with a great deal of independence and creativity.
The Sr. Program Development Coordinator for Communications, Marketing and Branded Content reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and manages a portfolio of strategic initiatives and activities at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) to communicate the center's purpose, achievements, and impact; drive engagement with key internal and external stakeholders; and shape the CFCCC brand identity in support of key priorities. This includes :
Communication Strategies * Develop and implement communication strategies, guidelines, templates, and efficient processes for gathering stories and data across the CFCCC. * Create key messaging with leadership and ensure consistency across all units.
Content Creation & Strategic Storytelling * Plan, create and secure approval for compelling content to highlight CFCCC opportunities, findings, achievements, and impact through various formats (e.g., annual reports, Cancer Center Support Grant renewal submission, biweekly newsletter, articles, videos, infographics). * A primary responsibility is to provide graphic and design support for CFCCC digital properties, announcements, reports, etc.
Marketing & Campaigns * Lead multi-channel campaigns to engage internal and external audiences. * Use performance metrics and analytics to optimize strategies.
Brand Identity * Develop and implement strategies to enhance CFCCC identity and reputation. * Collaborate with UCI and UCI Health communications teams to ensure consistency across all communication channels and platforms. * Maintain, develop and implement strategies to enhance CFCCC digital presence, including the website and social media. * A primary responsibility is daily content management of the CFCCC website.
Events * Plan and oversee major events such as the Annual Scientific Retreat (300+ attendees), Annual Chao Lecture (two-day event, 250+ attendees), advisory board meetings, staff appreciation events (two annually, 165+ staff).
The Sr. Program Development Coordinator manages Communications, Marketing and Branded Content efforts across CFCCC Clinical Trials Office, Research Programs, Shared Resources, and Cross-cutting Initiatives - Community Outreach and Engagement; Cancer Research Training and Education; and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. These are mandatory components of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and are vital to NCI's continued designation to the CFCCC. The NCI designation has a vital reputational and financial impact for CFCCC, UCI and UCI Health. Adherence to the guidelines of the CCSG is mandatory and involves ongoing monitoring of the organization for structure, direction, and fiscal management. All decisions at the CFCCC are taken within the context of the CCSG requirements.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across UCI and the Health System (e.g., with leadership, faculty, staff and students).
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
- Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
- Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, other graphic design programs, social media platforms, website editing software, marketing platforms and CMS systems). Demonstrated knowledge of media operations and proven ability in dealing with social, electronic, and print media to facilitate a positive image of the organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership, faculty and staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to produce compelling content for a broad range of audiences. Proven editorial skills and significant experience identifying researching and reporting complex research findings in an accessible and engaging way.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
- Advanced program and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to develop successful communications strategies.
- Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures. Knowledge of pertinent policies, procedures, regulations and requirements of the University of California, State, Federal, and other external agencies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload to meet deadlines.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Advanced ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data, to prepare with string attention to detail, sound and relevant proposals and analysis.
- Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills. Strong ability to apply and implement creative solutions to complex problems.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic research environment, medical center, community non-profit setting, or other large matrix organization.
- * Writing and editing of health- and science-related publications, stories, including scientific content for grants.
Preferred:
- Experience with large multidisciplinary, multi-component research grants (e.g., Cancer Center Support Grant).
Special Conditions:
- Requires travel to the Orange campus, Irvine campus, and off-site locations for meetings/events.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license. Position is subject to the California DMV's "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
- Requires regional travel within California multiple times per year.
- Requires annual attendance at national meetings held in different U.S. locations.
- Requires evening and / or weekend work as needed for events and / or completion and submission of annual reports to key stakeholders (e.g., National Cancer Institute).
