About This Role:

Kansas State University is seeking a detail-oriented and independently driven Fiscal Analyst I to provide comprehensive financial analysis and post-award accounting support within the College of Agriculture. This role is responsible for monitoring, managing, and reporting on all financial aspects of sponsored activity once awarded.

The Fiscal Analyst I position serves as the primary point of contact between the departmental and both the Pre-Award and Post Award offices, ensuring effective communication and ensuring seamless coordination for all grant activities. This role is responsible for monitoring project budgets and preparing expenditure projection reports and managing all of the financial aspects of grants once awarded. This includes such things as tracking expenditures, ensuring compliance with grant regulations, and preparing financial reports, analyzing the financial and accounting data to keep principal investigators (PIs), department/college management informed on the financial status of the projects and programs, and properly closing out the grant at the end of the project or program.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Serve as the departmental liaison to both the Pre/Post Award offices.
  • Monitor project budgets and generate expenditure projection reports.
  • Facilitate and process all financial and contract transactions related to the awards, projects and/or programs.
  • Analyze financial and accounting data to keep principal investigators (PIs), departmental, and college management informed about the financial status of projects and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and university policies related to sponsored awards and all other financial transactions.
  • Support collaborative teaching, research, and outreach initiatives by providing accurate financial information and recommendations.


Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to:



  • Assist, collaborate, and provide backup support for the other departmental business personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager. Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or related discipline
  • Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, post award accounting, or grants management
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly, determine priorities, take initiative, and work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret financial reports
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and accountability
  • Inquisitive and comfortable performing in-depth research
  • Ability to respond to wide range of clients in a friendly and effective manner
