Job Summary
The University of California, Davis Fire Department (UCDFD) is seeking a Contract EMS Instructor and Clinical Coordinator to support its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Paramedic Program. In collaboration with the Paramedic Program Lead, the Contract EMS Instructor and Clinical Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of clinical coordination, including but not limited to: * Student placement and scheduling. * Communication with hospital department staff and managers. * Facilitating and conducting clinical site orientations. * Tracking student and staff programmatic expectations and requirements. * Ordering, obtaining, and distributing student name badges for clinical rotations. * Conducting site visits at the various clinical sites. In addition to clinical coordination, this position includes instructional responsibilities within the Paramedic Program as available and assigned. The role may also provide teaching support for other EMS Division programs, such as the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program and CPR classes, based on program needs and within contractual hour limitations. This is a variable-hour, hourly contract position requiring flexibility, as weekly hours will fluctuate based on program demands. Hours cannot exceed 0.43 FTE or 894 hours per year. The ideal candidate is a punctual, self-motivated professional who is energetic, organized, and detail oriented. They must possess: * Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and non-verbal). * Organizational skills to plan and implement program timelines effectively. * Flexibility to adapt and modify student schedules and clinical site assignments as needed. * Problem-solving skills to develop workable solutions for the team in real time. Additionally, in alignment with the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), the Contract EMS Instructor and Clinical Coordinator must: * Have documented experience in emergency medical services. * Possess knowledge of the curriculum and clinical requirements for the Paramedic Program. * Demonstrate knowledge of the program's evaluation processes for student learning and performance. The Contract EMS Instructor and Clinical Coordinator must be available to work flexible administrative hours during the week to fulfill clinical coordination duties, including conducting site visits and meeting with students and hospital staff at UC Davis or other area hospitals. Additionally, they will provide instructional support for the Paramedic Program's skills labs as needed, including current sessions scheduled for Fridays from 0800 to 1800. - Current California certification or licensure as an EMT-Paramedic, Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), or Medical Doctor (MD) is required.
- An associates Degree with a minimum of six years of experience or a bachelor's degree or higher with a minimum of three years of experience in medical or allied health education, training, and practice, with a solid foundation in EMS.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating educational activities, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills. Proficiency in computer use is essential, including software for presentations, file management, documentation, and comprehensive reporting.
- Ability to deliver instruction effectively in clinical and classroom environments, assess student learning and performance, and facilitate successful student outcomes aligned with program objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor I certification or completion of forty (40) hours of documented teaching methodology instruction, including methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories, competency-based education principles, and effective facilitation techniques.
- Documented experience working in hospital, pre-hospital, or EMS environments to support clinical education, with familiarity in program accreditation standards such as CoAEMSP or California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA).
- Experience with learning management systems (LMS), simulation-based training tools, and student management platforms to enhance educational delivery and student engagement.
- Proven experience in professional team leadership, including creating schedules, managing coordination, assigning work, monitoring progress, and producing reports. Ability to work independently as a self-starter while effectively collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including hospital partners, medical directors, and program leadership.
- Ability to adapt to changing program needs in a positive, professional, and productive manner. Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that meets the needs of diverse student populations and healthcare settings.

Department Overview The Contract EMS Instructor and Clinical Coordinator operates under the general direction of the UCDFD EMS Division Head, Paramedic Program Director, and Lead Instructor. This position works closely with the Medical Director and other EMS Division members to coordinate and manage the clinical components of the Paramedic Program. The incumbent will coordinate and oversee clinical education for the Paramedic Program, ensuring students are appropriately placed and scheduled for clinical rotations. Responsibilities include managing all aspects of clinical block assignments, such as Front Line, Operating Room (OR), Preceptorship, Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU), Obstetrics (OB), and Pediatric Emergency Department (Peds ED) rotations. The incumbent collaborates with hospital education teams, including but not limited to UC Davis or other area hospitals, to facilitate clinical preceptor orientations and ensure program requirements, expectations, and objectives are clearly communicated to supervising personnel. The role also involves managing logistical tasks, such as reserving instructional spaces, providing students with parking and classroom location information, and coordinating ID badge requests. The incumbent will maintain open communication with clinical site managers to ensure clinical block availability, assign students to rotations, and disseminate timelines and objectives. Additionally, the incumbent will create and manage tools for student signups, monitor student-preceptor assignments, and provide real-time feedback and course corrections as needed through on-site check-ins and consistent email communication. Throughout clinical time blocks, the incumbent will remain accessible via cell phone, provide timely support to students and staff, and monitor ongoing needs through frequent communication. This role requires continuous collaboration to meet program objectives, evaluate student progress, and ensure the successful delivery of clinical education. POSITION INFORMATION

Work schedules will vary and may include nights, weekends, and variable hours to support instruction, clinical site visits, and other classes held outside of standard business hours. The position also requires time dedicated to administrative work for clinical coordination, including scheduling, communication, and documentation tasks. The incumbent is responsible for adhering to all safety guidelines, protocols, and processes while performing job duties in various environments, including classrooms, hospital departments, and clinical settings.
