The Opportunity The Department of Aviation English at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide seeks candidates for the position of Aviation English Specialist. The Aviation English Specialist will be responsible for teaching, and supporting the teaching of Aviation English courses in a variety of capacities, including:
Training in Aviation English and Aviation Familiarity will be provided to new faculty; new faculty will be well-supported by experienced Aviation English professionals. Our English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs are designed to improve the English language proficiency of aviation professionals. This position will be primarily focused on the delivery and development of quality online ESP instruction for air traffic controllers, airline pilots, and flight training cadets. Other ESP instruction could include Aviation English for maintenance engineers, flight attendants, or airport personnel. Instructors and curriculum developers will be supported with initial and ongoing training to become familiar with and remain knowledgeable about aviation-related course topics. Instructors are members of a teaching team that meets regularly to discuss best practices and challenges. Instructors deliver up to 15 hours per week of synchronous classes, provide written and video feedback on students' audio- and video-based submissions following established rubrics, and perform other teaching duties as needed. Curriculum development may be a part of the position requirement. Developers are led by an experienced Aviation English team leader. Course content is developed for and delivered to students via a Learning Management System (LMS). The position is remote and mostly online. Attendance at regular virtual meetings is required during normal Eastern business hours. The position requires annual in-person meetings, generally not more than two per year. The position may require in-person teaching at Embry-Riddle domestic and international locations. This is an annually renewable, non-tenure track position.
