The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Regenerative Medicine

Department Summary

As part of Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED), the department of Regenerative Medicine is at the forefront of developing novel therapies for patients. This position will be jointly hosted by Regenerative Medicine and gRED Computational Sciences (gCS). In collaboration, these two departments are working to understand the processes that control regeneration, aging, and cellular reprogramming. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Using bioinformatic tools to understand the processes of regeneration, aging, and cellular reprogramming via analysis of scRNAseq and scATACseq datasets

  • Follow up lab studies in cell culture systems to address hypotheses formed from this bioinformatic analysis (optional)

Program Highlights:

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Participation in department meetings and journal clubs

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2025 (Summer).

  • A stipend will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are:

  • You must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Computational Sciences and/or a biological discipline (enrolled student)

  • Required Majors: Bioengineering, Computer Science or Engineering, Data Science or related fields.

Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with computational analysis of single-cell genomic data (e.g. cluster and cluster marker identification, trajectory inference, neighborhood-based analysis, chromatin accessibility peak calling, motif analysis)

  • Proficiency in R and/or Python

  • Familiarity with basic concepts in cell biology and gene expression.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Optional wet lab experience

  • Exposure to frameworks for machine learning inference (e.g. Pytorch, TensorFlow)

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45-50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
