The Department of Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin seeks applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Media Studies or closely related field. The Department is housed within the Moody College of Communication, and offers a broad range of courses in media studies, production, and screenwriting leading to B.S., M.A., M.F.A, and Ph.D. degrees. The Department of Radio-Television-Film is one of the few programs in the country that is consistently ranked in the top ten in both media studies as well as production and screenwriting. The Moody College of Communication, one of the largest, most comprehensive communication colleges in the country, includes programs in Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Studies, Journalism and Media, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.

This is a two-year appointment, with teaching beginning with the start of classes in August 2025. The nine-month salary for this assignment is $54,000 and includes university benefits, to be provided 8/16/2025 through 5/15/2027.

We seek applicants for a 3/3 teaching load that includes both lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses. We are specifically looking for faculty who teach broad courses in film, broadcasting, and/or digital media. This faculty position will be prepared to teach courses currently offered by the department as well as to develop new courses aligned with research interests. The Department of Radio-Television-Film highlights a range of areas including film and television history, critical/cultural analysis, digital platform studies, creative non-fiction and more.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in media studies or closely related field by the time of appointment. Demonstrated teaching excellence at the college level is preferred.
