Your Role With Us:

  • Supervises Radiation Therapists in Radiation Oncology to ensure efficiency and accuracy of all treatment related procedures and processes in simulation, treatment vaults and HDR suite, including documentation.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of all treatment related procedures and processes, and provides direction and support to the radiation therapists performing these duties.
  • Understands regulatory and compliance requirements for the simulation and treatment areas and demonstrates adherence to applicable policies and standard work in daily operations.
  • Supports best practice in simulation and treatment areas by participating in hospital councils geared toward improving clinical performance.
  • Maintains the environment of simulation and the treatment areas and staff education to ensure ongoing survey readiness at all times.
  • Manages clinic safety procedures and maintains a safe environment for staff and patients at all times.
  • Works in partnership with providers to promote evidence-based practices and exceptional patient experience.
  • Utilizes the daily staffing tool to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained in simulation and the treatment areas. Manages staff absences and implements corrective action as necessary.
  • Edit and sign-off timecards according to policy and ensure correct documentation of leave of absence.
  • Responsible for posting new projects on visual boards and updating data on a regular cadence.
  • Maintain flow of treatment patients by resolving daily issues and by working with physics, physicians, and engineers to resolve machine issues; including submitting work orders, scheduling maintenance, and overseeing staff and patient rescheduling during machine downtime.
  • Direct responsibility for the quality and safety program; which includes, attending daily chart rounds, ongoing evaluation and audit of performance improvement projects, and oversight of all regulation required documents that are the responsibility of the Radiation Therapists; including blood product irradiation, block room, and daily QA logs.
  • Actively promote a team environment. Address team concerns in a timely manner. Is aware of team dynamics, recognizes when a team is struggling and intervenes to resolve issues.
  • Implements and monitors cost reduction measures such as overtime reduction, supply and inventory management and frontline staff productivity.
  • Provides on-the-job coaching and performance feedback to staff. Addresses performance management issues and implements progressive discipline as needed.
  • Supports staff in leading and completing lean activities, which includes a monthly entry into the metrics tracker for each clinic.
  • Ensures new hires complete initial orientation competencies, all staff complete annual department competencies, receive ongoing education and complete all HealthStream assignments by their due date.
  • Coordinates, leads, and ensures staff participation in visual board huddles, safety and team huddles, leader/staff 1:1's, and monthly staff meetings.
  • Provides tactical support of strategic initiatives. Promotes staff understanding of organizational strategy and the role of the team in carrying out the tasks needed to achieve strategic outcomes.

    Background/Expertise:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy preferred or Graduate of an Accredited Radiation Therapy program required.
    • Radiation Therapist License required; Current unencumbered Oregon Board of Medical Imaging license required.
    • Basic Life Support required
    • ARRT National Radiology Licence required.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Radiation Therapist.
    • Two (2) years in a leadership position overseeing 5+ Radiation Therapists preferred.
    • Experience with Varian linear accelerators, Aria, and Epic.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication style. Able to perform public speaking and leadership of group activities.
    • Ability to engage others in two-way dialogue and problem-solving.
    • Ability to form positive, collaborative relationships with hospital staff, patients, families and physicians.
    • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to handle multiple issues and adjust to changing situations and needs.
    • Ability to problem-solve in a proactive, creative manner, using sound judgment based on factual information and clinical knowledge.
