Description

Columbia Engineering is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track junior faculty position in robotics and human augmentative systems. Recruitment for this position is part of a broad university-level robotics initiative that spans multiple departments across Columbia University in the City of New York. Applications at the ranks of assistant professor or associate professor (untenured, but on tenure-track) will be considered.

Applications are sought in all areas of robotics and human augmentative systems covering both theoretical and experimental aspects. Areas of interest include novel robotics, control systems, human augmentation, sensing, computation, communications, rehabilitative systems, soft robotics, and others.

We are seeking researchers who can benefit from the highly multidisciplinary environment and the state-of-the-art shared facilities/infrastructure within Columbia Engineering, Columbia Medicine, Data Science Institute, and Zuckerman Institute. The candidate is expected to hold an appointment in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering, with the possibility of a joint appointment among these and other departments. The candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of their field, the Department(s), and the School by developing an original and leading externally funded research program, establishing strong collaborations in research and education, and contributing to the undergraduate and graduate educational mission of the Department(s) and the School. Columbia fosters multidisciplinary research and encourages collaborations with academic departments and units across Columbia University.


Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent by the starting date of the appointment. Applicants for this position must have the potential to do pioneering research and to teach effectively. The school is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
