Taft is seeking a HR Compliance Manager to support our Human Resources Department in Taft's Chicago or Minneapolis office.

We are seeking a HR Compliance Manager to support our Human Resources Department. This position will be located in our Chicago or Minneapolis office but will support all Taft offices nationwide. As the HR Compliance Manager, you will ensure that Taft's human resources policies and practices are in full compliance with all relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Human Resources. All Taft employees operate under a "Client First" philosophy-in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Monitors and interprets federal, state and local employment laws and regulations to ensure Taft compliance. Develops, implements, and updates HR procedures and practices. Conducts regular audits to identify and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Collaborates with Director of HR to create and administer HR policies. Ensures all HR practices, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and termination, comply with labor laws, and internal standards.
  • Provides training and guidance to HR staff and management team on policy and compliance-related matters.
  • Provides guidance to managers on employee relations issues to ensure fair and legally compliant resolutions. Supports the HR team in managing disciplinary actions, grievances, and investigations.
  • Researches, implements, and monitors paid leave ordinances and requirements in all Taft jurisdictions.
  • Oversees various reporting requirements including, affirmative action and EEO-1.
  • Provides guidance on leave of absence policies and administration to ensure compliance with FMLA, ADA, state and local ordinances, and Firm policies and procedures.
  • Manages the organization and legal retention requirements of all HR records and documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues and problems and to recommend and implement effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks in order to work on multiple projects with varying deadlines.
  • Strong technical skills and experience working with human resources systems, preferably ADP.


Education and Experience:



  • Knowledge of human resources administration at a level normally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in HR, with demonstrated knowledge of multi-state employment laws and compliance requirements.
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification strongly desired.
  • Experience working within a law firm or professional services environment a plus.
